GrogHeads Advanced Research on Projects Advisory #80

If it’s Friday, it’s GARPA!  Unless, y’know, it’s not GARPA because it’s the off-Friday where we run fun Zombie-themed stuff or something else.

Scythe (Stonemaier Games)
$1.29mil of $33k and yes you read that right, ends 5 November 2015

Roll Save vs “Ooooooh”.  You failed.  Seriously.  You gotta see this game; it’s a visual treat. It’s 2-hour(ish) playtime for 1-5 players, so it scales nicely from solo to game-group play, and has countries in an alt-history Eastern Europe fighting over technology and resources in in the 1920s.  It’s proto-industrialism without the Steampunk tropes, and manages to blend almost-familiar nationalities with giant ‘mechs, 4x mechanics, and decent dose of sci-fi storylines.  Oh yeah, and it looks good, too.  It’s not like they need our help to succeed, but you might need our help to find their campaign page.

Revenge of the British! An Airship Dragoon AAR

Our favorite Frenchman (Sauron) goes back to Airship Dragoon for a quick-and-dirty – and we do mean “dirty” – shootout with the Queen’s soldiers ~

Oh so much GARPA goodness for you this week…

Bear’s Claw 1941 (GMT Games / Consim Press)
P550 – not there yet

What the world really needs – just needs! – is another East front wargame, huh? Well, it’s printed by GMT and designed by CP, so it’s going to be a solid, quality production. And unlike those massive drive-to-the-Urals-at-company-level monster games, these battles are bite-sized games of specific actions. Over-runs, morale, unknown Soviet unit strengths, and air support all contribute to a solid level of detail. The counters are a little busy, but still gorgeous, so don’t hesitate to march off to GMT’s pledge site and get on board.

GARPA eschews all hexes for something different this week,

The Day of the Rangers  (Radio Dishdash Publishing Ltd.)
$320 of $4600, ends 23 August 2015

A combination of both rules and minis, this newly-launched game series has built their first expansion around the (in)famous BlackHawk Down battle in Mogadishu.  The figures are excellent and could easily be re-used in any number of post-Cold War games.  The campaign page also includes some 360° videos of the sample sculpts, so fast-rope over to their page and see how much you want to plunk down.
