Grogheads Is Loving Field of Glory: Empires!

launchfeature

If you’ve been reading the Groghead’s front page for the last week or so you have seen the couple of teaser articles we published in anticipation of the Field of Glory: Empires (FogE) launch on July 11. It has been a while since a PC strategy game has generated the kind of excitement that we have seen in our forums.  So, we’re going to continue with our coverage here to hold you over until our detailed review is ready – the only difference being that you all can now play the game along with us. We even have a massive MP game set to kick-off on July 18 between 16 different GH forum members!

Operation Urgent Fury – Grogheads Invades Grenada!

SS1

In October 1983, General Hudson Austin, the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of Grenada, launched a coup against the Marxist People’s Revolutionary Government (“PRG”) and its leader, Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. A week later, Bishop and his cabinet members were executed, the civilian government was disbanded and all of Grenada was placed on a 24-hour shoot-on-sight lock-down with approximately 1,000 Americans trapped on the small 120 square mile island nation.  Still reeling from the recent hostage situation in Iran, and with reports of a rapidly deteriorating situation, the government of the United States decided to take decisive action planning in mere days a multi-pronged invasion involving elite units from across the full spectrum of the U.S. military.

The Operational Art of War IV, developed by TrickeySoft LLC and published by Slitherine Ltd. ships with a 12-turn scenario covering the late October 1983 invasion. Hopefully having learned from the blunders made by their historical counterparts, a crack team from Grogheads takes command of JSOC and Task Force 120 to see if it can accomplish the mission with greater precision and efficiency against the People’s Revolutionary Army bolstered by veteran Cubans. Check your parachutes, lock and load your weapons and get ready to jump in 3…2…1…

Grogheads Previews Field of Glory: Empires – Part Deux!

FOGE

Now to the heart of the matter. After reviewing the 50+ factions presently available, I chose Pontus, mostly because they are a faction I have never played with in any similar strategy game, but have always had an interest in, and also because Field of Glory: Empires (“FogE”) rates them a ‘3’ on difficulty and interest. To me, that is a good fit for my first campaign.

Yes, we know…Slitherine and Ageod won’t be releasing FogE until July 11th, but we here at Grogheads know people and we were able to score some code early. Grogheads Takes a Look at Field of Glory 2 DLC – Wolves at the Gate!

One of the things I truly love about Field of Glory 2 is the unit artwork, which I find really attractive, reminding me of the prettier sorts of ancient table top armies that I used to play with back in the day before my computer dominated the gaming scene. So here’s a nostalgic look at a sample selection of armies to showcase what one can expect with this particular DLC. In particular I have chosen some of the more iconic armies of the period, which extends the game timeline from the 7th Century (when the Age of Belisarius DLC starts to peter out) into the early 11th century at around 1040AD.
