This article gives just a taste of Warhammer Armageddon eye candy, as well as a few comments on the DLC. Enjoy!

Ultramarines meet Orks, Orks meet Ultramarines. It’s going to get mean and green!

I had the original game, plus the free expansion – Untold Battles, which was really limited to the Imperial Guard and the Orks. At a glance nothing much has changed with the DLC, save for more situations to overcome, and three different varieties of Space Marines.

Greenskin? Who are you calling a Greenskin, Salamander boy? Yes the Salamanders come in Green, no doubt confusing for the Orks. They have fewer starting unit choices than the Blood Angels, or Ultramarines, but seem to do well nonetheless. They are Space Marines after all.

Ultramarines are definitely pro melee. Every infantry unit carries chainswords, but then again, so do the Blood Angels, as do the Salamanders. However, they do have aircraft available to them early on.

The Orks get flanked by the Salamanders. It must be their camo!

The new expansions add more scenarios and different chapters of the Space Marines:

  • The Vulkan’s Wrath DLC introduces the Salamanders Space Marines and 10 new scenarios as a new Salamanders campaign. You can tell a Salamander – they come in green.
  • The Angels of Death DLC adds the Blood Angels Space Marines and 10 new scenarios as a new Blood Angels campaign. Blood Angels come in red, should I be surprised?
  • The Glory of Macragge DLC adds the Ultramarines as the final instalment of DLC. It adds 11 new scenarios as a new Ultramarines campaign. It also features a new gaming mechanic where eliminating certain enemy units can change how future missions flow. Ultramarines dress up in snazzy blue kit. I guess the clue is in the name.

I know they’re Imperial Guard, but that Reaver Titan is sooo cool.

I didn’t detect any new enemies to fight, no Tau, no Eldar, no Tyranids, no Necrons. The closest thing present to a Chaos faction (not really…) were the indomitable Orks, as ever willing to kick my “Humie” butt. To be honest, I’d have liked to see more variety in my enemies with the dlc, but as the Ultramarines DLC represents the final instalment, I guess that probably won’t happen unless Slitherine release a completely new expansion.

Blood Angels are red, Ultra’s are blue. Watch out Orks, we’re coming for you.

Warhammer Armageddon is not a hardcore wargame, but it can be fun if you don’t take it too seriously. The DLC in my opinion, are really there for those who like the game system, and are really are looking for more of the same. True, you get new scenarios, and new units for the space marines, but fundamentally – in my opinion – there are not significant differences between the chapters. As I mentioned earlier you are playing pretty much the same opponent – the Orks.

I like Squiggoth’s with Zzap guns. I just don’t like facing them.
