In Part 9 taxes were raised to pay for province improvements, Capua was invaded, and an evil plan to usurp Matilda (may she burn in Hell) was born. In Part 10 the plan is begun, improvements commence and Capua is added to the fold.
The first battle of Capua goes well, the County will soon be ours.
The defeated army retreats to the East. The Neopolitan Army is roused to see what all the shouting is about; I expect an attack from them, but in true Italian style they just watch from afar and then retreat.
My sister comes of age as a Grey Eminence, always an attractive trait on the marital ticklist. She’ll be a catch for someone, unless………………
……the Heir to Matilda’s little Empire is unmarried. There’s some hand rubbing, back stabbing plotting to be done here. Currently Jindrich is the heir to all her lands but he is not of her dynastic line, meaning when Matilda dies it’s the end of her line. I betroth my sister to Jindrich with a matrilineal marriage, meaning the kids will be of Di Palma dynasty – in one foul move I have ended Mathildas’s line – when my sister produces the first Di Palma we will be skipping down to ‘Assassin’s R Us’ with a sack of cash and offing Matilda!
She signs her own death warrant – revenge is served soon, all cold and nasty like. From Hell’s heart I spit at thee and on and on…
Whilst the court and spies are all busy congratulating themselves on the ‘Tuscan Move’, soldiers expand the realm in a more manly way and kick Capua’s ass.
The improvements start. Money will be required to assassinate Matilda or pay for mercenaries if the plan goes horribly wrong
A small court marriage, bringing in an ‘18’ on the Steward skill – another recruit for Ladies with Talent (TM)
Hmmmm, I suspect this might be some power shifting after realising what she’s signed up for. She can be Duchess of wherever she wants, it won’t make a difference with a Di Palma dagger through her neck.
Me and the Pope, best buddies.
In Part 11, expensive claims, loans, and Kingly queries
