The newest offering for Slitherine’s Battle Academy 2 is an expansion pack containing 2 new campaigns.
Each campaign takes place during the Battle for Kursk in July 1943. Players take on the role of the German attackers in the northern fighting and the Russian defenders in the southern pincer fighting.
Each campaign offers 6 linked scenarios. Some of the player’s unit from each scenario will carry forward tot eh next scenario. This will reward the player for completing their mission while trying to preserve as much of their force as possible. This also means the scenarios must be completed in order.
Each side also gets some new units to fight with. The Germans get some heavy armour for blasting Russian defences. The Elefant, Brummbar, Nashorn and Stu42 join in the fun.
For the Russian side the SU76, and Lend Lease Churchill III and Valentine join in the defence of Mother Russia.
The fighting is just as intense as the original game. One must plan carefully to be able to win and bring forward enough troops help fight the next battle. The AI is crafty at hiding AT capable infantry in the tall grass just waiting to ambush rushed German armour. On the attack it will carefully plot your demise with slow methodical assaults.
This is shaping up to be a great addition to a great game.
Have Fun.
