GrogHeads Advanced Research on Projects Advisory #87
And on the Frith Day, he gave us GARPA! ~
7th Sea, Second Ed (John Wick)
$481k of $30k, ends 13 March 2016
Another project that blew through its funding goal so fast that it almost feels like they’re just making up stretch goals as they go. 7th Sea was a beloved RPG that was popular in the early 00’s, in large part because the world of Theah was such a fantabulous setting. The creator now has the rights to his game back, and is updating all the material for re-publication, and by the looks of it, there’s a few thousand people that can’t wait to get back on the train. Sail over to their Kickstarter page and marvel at the depths of their stretch goals and drop your doubloons on your own pledge.
Victoriana (Galley & Lawrence)
$10k of $42k, ends 9 March 2016
It looks like Clue for Victorian England, but it’s more cooperative than competitive, and it has a variety of crimes and missions. Additionally, as you get closer to solving the mysteries and unraveling the intrigue, the “AI” gets tougher as it adds more opponents and tougher challenges to the map. Additionally, as time moves forward in the game, you might lose track of certain leads you can follow. The characters are a mixture of classic literature and real-world Victorian personalities. Meander over to their campaign page and see what you think; it’s only a few quid to get into the action.
Fighting the Islamic State (Two Generals Games)
$43 of $500, ends 8 March 2106
A new project about the current events in Iraq and Syria, Fighting the Islamic State looks like a vanity press game (something we’re very familiar with) but promises to be extensively playtested and using established printers for fulfillment. The Russians are there, as are the Turks, the Syrians, and everyone but Rex Brynen (maybe they’re saving him for the expansion pack?). March to the sound of the guns and check out the (admittedly-sparsely-illustrated) Kickstarter page to see what you think.
Comanchería: The Rise and Fall of the Comanche Empire (GMT Games)
p500 – made the cut
A solo game about the conquering of the plains of North America, this game borrows the system of its sister game Navajo and expands the system to other tribes of the First Nations of North America. Players guide the Comanche people through their challenges in the 1700-1800s, including the expansion of the colonial settlements, trades, wars, and migrations. How will your people survive? It’s all in your hands over at their pledge page.
