Scenario 3 – Operation Cartwheel,  Attack on New Georgia

Operation Cartwheel

New Georgia is a large island. My main objectives are taking various points on New Georgia. My secondary objectives are completing the scenario quickly, sinking six or more Japanese Ships, doing 20+ damage with aircraft and neutralizing an airfield on a different island.

Objectives for New Georgia

Main Force

There are two landing zones which are so far apart they cannot provide mutual support. Initially you cannot place your aircraft because you lack an airstrip or a carrier. You have a Navy force of one cruiser and two destroyers. Your cruiser and two destroyers have very limited operating room in the South because of shallow seas.

Diversion Force

I sent two Marine units to the Northern landing zone. In the South you can either have a safe landing zone by concentrating your forces or you can attack on two beacheads.

Turn 3 moving out from North landing zone

Turn 3 in South. Secured beach after fighting

Turn 4 it will be hard to breakout

Turn 4 Naval Support looking for the Jap reinforcements

Turn 5 the Jap Reinforcements arrive

Turn 5 the breakout will not be easy

Turn 6 North – ships closing but suffering Jap air attacks. Troops advance against light bunker defenses

Turn 6 Start. Heavy Jap Resistance

Turn 6 end – One Jap unit destroyed and bunker weakened

Turn 7 Artillery is protected. Last Jap beachead defenders killed

Turn 7 End – Another Jap Bunker found
