John Tiller’s Campaign Series: East Front
We received word from headquarters overnight that a Soviet offensive was set to begin in our sector within the next 48 hours. Our orders were to take and hold Malinava in the face of the Soviet offensive. If we could set a defensive line in and around Malinava and Lake Shchu’d we could make the Soviets pay for every inch of ground with their blood.
Early this morning my small company of heavy Panzers and attached infantry approached the town from the West using roads north and south of Lake Shchu’d. We were ambushed by a Soviet probing force which had already taken up positions within the city. My forces quickly pushed out the enemy elements, the pillars of smoke attesting to their efficient work. As the last of the Soviet’s force fled to the East, I knew there was little time to prepare our defenses and bring up reinforcements before the main Soviet force arrived.
