However - is there a more useful annual or guide about? I don't understand what the benefits are of hiring a crew member - for example an Engineer

Tried X3: Terran Conflict a few times but could never wrap my head around it enough to enjoy it.  Watching this 2.0 video makes me want to consider this new release. Or would I be wasting my time and money?  Hmmmm...?

I think quite a few people would say yes.

I think I'd be tempted to say so too actually.

I'm just not "feeling" it just now. I did spend quite a bit of time on it at the weekend.

As an example of my unhappy flying - in X-3 Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude - granted I didn't play them a great deal - but when I did - I was like "WOW!". The game was stunning. I'm just not getting that with this. So not only am I a bit lost (as with TC and AP) but I'm a bit meh with it's look.

I essentially just fly about landing, looting, attacking something for no reason and generally really not doing anything useful. Like I mentioned, I was allowed to take a mission even though it was something that I couldn't perform. I would've preferred the game to tell me I couldn't perform that - and tell me what I had to do in order to be able to perform it - than let me go on my merry way and wondering why the hell I can't find the Ore.

Hopefully someone will pipe in with something more positive.

I'm going to watch some of that guy's videos...see if they can't change my mind.

Well - there are definitely more positive things to say about the game now.

I restarted and took the Trader option. From what I gather I've got two big old ships. No idea what to do with them yet - but they're following me around.

Combat seems better and not so easy - though I am playing on Easy I think.

Graphics look better also and there seems to be a fair bit more variation.

I think the mouse is screwed a bit (damn memory) because I'm sure I used to be able to use the mouse to click on the map buttons etc...now I can't seem to. I think I was able to but it's possible me trying to take a screen shot and being shown my screen capture program and alt-tabbing back in may have done that - I'm not sure. Just be aware - it's fickle.

I haven't tried joystick even though they have apparently improved support because I have got used to using the mouse.

So far - much more depth imo and it seems to be a better game. I was transporting a client through various systems and there was much more enemy activity than I had seen before.

Does 2.0 improve performance at all? I had to give up Xrebirth 1.0 because combat slowed the game to molasses, and I was chasing my GPU rather than bad guys.

I didn't have an issue with performance in general. It still suffers from loading textures though...so when you dock and walk off the ship, the textures load piecemeal and characters shapes appear piecemeal. But it was like that before. I haven't noticed any slow down and I haven't noticed any speed up because it wasn't slow for me before...sorry
