GrogHeads Advanced Research on Projects Advisory #67

Two games, two gizmos, one GARPA.  Enjoy!

Holy Roman Empire (One Small Step)
$14k of $7k, ends 13 April 2015

An update to a venerable and revolutionary game, OSS’s Holy Roman Empire is a graphic feast that updates the original with the incorporation of older errata and the greater integration of the tactical battle board.  Counters, cards, player mats, and a host of scenarios round out a solid package for a true multi-player wargame with a heavy political layer that will keep your game group grogging for the long haul.  March over their Kickstarter campaign and tithe your gold to the lords of wargaming.

Cartomancy (Smoke and Mirrors Games)
$3k of $7k, ends 18 April 2015

An “open source toolbox” for RPGs that comes across as a card-driven Savage Worlds type of game, Cartomancy campaign is a little odd to get your hands around.  There’s the book, but there’s also a deck of cards (or more, depending on what gets unlocked), and access to playtest materials and PDFs.  The art is nifty gamer-art, and the universality of the game likely appeals to folks who run a lot of one-shots or weekend convention games, rather settling in for the long haul on a single campaign.  Check out their campaign page and see if Cartomancy fits your bill.

Pinch!  (Jeff Morin)
$6k of $5k goal, ends 12 May 2015

Yep, he’s back with another gadget.  Jeff Morin has created a variety of laser-cut metal multi-tools, and Pinch! is the latest.  A keychain-sized bit of goodness, the hex heads, scraper, and prybar will definitely find a use during your average week, and when you’re done, the bottle opener will help you kick back and enjoy the evening.  Check out the campaign and grab a titanium one, so you don’t weigh down you keychain with the heavy stuff.

The Gentleman’s Single-Use Monocle (SMBC Comics)
$93k of $25k, ends 15 April 2015

It’s too early for April Fools, so you know this is legit.  You’re out on the town, and need to urgently class up your look a bit.  Grab a monocle!  The world’s first Disposable Single-Use Unlubricated Monocle, for the On-the-Go Gentleman is right there in your pocket, ready for all your classing-up needs.  And because you were smart and bought the multipack while the pledges were cheap, you’ve got plenty more at home and aren’t worried about whether or not this is the time to use the last one.
