A quick visual trip through the Eastern Front ~

This Red Thunder article is a sort of screenshot AAR. I only started taking the shots just after I realised I was playing an exceptional scenario.

It’s AD Amongst the Ruins designed by Seinfeldrules, and available from The Few Good Men. A tiny sized but intense scenario. You play a German Pioneer company at 80% strength tasked to clear an industrial area from a half strength Soviet infantry company. The surviving Soviets have kept a lot of their automatic weapons, so they’re tough, but fragile. The Soviets are very well set up with good lines of fire, and the German player who only has an infantry force with no supporting assets must use good infantry tactics to win. A highly recommended scenario, I give you some of the highlights of my game.

isn’t final Blitzkrieg the Bulge game of Combat Mission? – is this a mod of that or a Red Thunder Mission?

I enjoyed playing this but the modeling of the Soviet SMG really shows itself to be ‘assault rifle’ modeling. German infantry in brick buildings 150-200 meters away are KIA from the SMG as they seem to be cover defeating projectiles. The Soviets had select fire for these SMG but it is not modeled. At over 100 meters, plinking away was the norm, not ripping through the drums ammo on auto.

I would say the ‘cover’ modeling is off as troops that are pinned/suppressed are just whittled away regardless of cover. But,that is the way it is and there is no change coming.

I can’t say that I am a BF customer again till they make some sort of technical jump. The game as is, is a stale cracker.
