I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome China to 1941. They have managed to learn how to successfully land an aircraft on an aircraft carrier.

China has successfully landed a fighter jet on its first aircraft carrier, which entered service two months ago, the country's official news agency confirmed Sunday.

If one restricts themselves to Jet aircraft then we're all the way up to... 1944.  It was a Sea Venom flown by none other than the legendary Eric Brown.

Carriers are pretty complicated beasts. 
Landing and taking off are more challenging than from a land base, but these aren't the hardest part.
Let's ask about arresting gear for landing these supersonic beasts.

I can't tell you how many flight deck guys were seriously hurt off Yankee Station in the late 60s.
With the constant air attacks, the arresting gear wasn't always properly checked and maintained.  When one of those steel cables snaps or breaks loose, it can cut a man in half. 
And we've been working with these things since the 1920s.
I would not want to be on the flight decks of any Chinese carriers for the forseeable future.
