In all of it's gritty, grungy glory.

The graphics aren't bleeding edge, but the story-line is addicting. 

It's essentially a detective story where you have to figure out what happened.

Assuming you're smart enough to read, and most characters probably aren't.

(The scholarly types have to avoid getting into violent situations).

Age of Decadence, an old school RPG.

It's on Steam, it was something like ten years in development, and the writing and parallel story lines are brilliant.

Anything I could say about the plot would be a spoiler. 

But combat in AoD is famously difficult, which is unusual for an RPG.

Imagine Fallout and Realms of Arcania having a baby set during the late Roman Empire.

What makes this game unusual is that the developers spent ten years getting it to this point because it was a labor of love, and will continue to tinker with it until it is perfect.

This is what happens when game development is NOT driven by financial motives.

(The game is finished, but still has a few odd kinks that no one who hasn't spent too much time playing it will probably ever notice).
