Computer Gaming / Re: HA! I finished it!

Unexpectedly finished the Wrath of the Druids DLC for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla this afternoon.

Not quite powered-up enough to begin the Siege of Paris DLC so I am going to go back to England for a spell. I 'eliminated' 9 of 10 of the Children of Danu as well  (evil druids) and the damned drinking game stopped me from getting the 10th one.

Gaming imitates life once again.

Computer Gaming / Re: Star Citizen

Just did the first event mission. (1/5 in the 1st series). Predictably Star Citizen had a myriad of bugs that compounded to create a cacophony of issues and false starts. But we got there in the end after being rescued by a medic who was out of uniform. Being out of uniform and then deciding to stay and help somewhere else in the facility without telling me resulted in his death... at my hands. We got him back up and I paid him a bonus. A good ole boy to be sure and a good sport.
I will forever see the aliens dropship crashing in my mates Carrack landing attempt resulting in a belly flow that hurtled towards me a breakneck speed. I was forced to run for it before an almighty explosion finished her off. No medical bed for us!!

You have to love it. I was only planning to spend an hour doing this and Star Citizen contrived to thwart us. We have to do more of this though. Was rough coming back after all this time. But I loved it. Here are the original enemy bodies done in with my insurance policy (shotgun). More around the corner.

This guy thought he was a non combatant. I almost had news for him. He aint killed any babies! But damn guilt by association and I aint got no zip ties!
Seriously though, I suspect if you gut this guy he might have a slower version of encryption key. Might get a crime stat though.
Perhaps I should have just asked him nicely? Harsh language Vasquez. It really could have worked.

P.S. Medics should always be in uniform and this one was not which is why he was so good about me killing him. Wearing dark colours similar to the A.I. instead of red and white can be detrimental to ones health.

Jarhead I am loving this game. Just a little bummed they promised multiplayer skirmish coop approx two weeks from release and nothing yet (EDIT: I just looked and multiplayer improvements are listed in the patche after next as a focus). Only 4 missions or so into the campaign so no spoilers. I was not going to post here until I had finished the campaign, but as I am now distracted by Warthunder events I thought I would express my SUPREME satisfaction with this game. It has everything I want from a RTS game and a Terminator one. Absolutely brilliant story telling and company of heroes or men of war 2 assault squad features such as use of cover and picking up or scavenging weapons from the battlefield.

This is what starships troopers terran command should have been.

By the way has anybody noticed that a lot of the best games have been coming out of eastern countries for many years now? I think these guys might be Hungarian? It's like the western studios are paralised by high wages and brain drain to higher paid jobs outside of the game industry. Additionally Western overheads seem to include a lot of social elements which water things down. For example Homeworld3 devs 4 day working week and focus on social events more than game updates.

To illustrate here are the tutorial pages that turn up throughout the campaign and are also available I believe in the main menu. There is also an encyclopdia of vehicles etc. Very well done. What more could you want? You can basically do whatever tactical method you wish with all of these features.

Quote from: Silent Disapproval Robot on March 23, 2024, 08:26:45 AMIf you haven't yet, you might want to check out a boardgame called Heart of Darkness.   It's similar to Source of the Nile, plays well solo or with a group, and is quite a fun experience.

Good tip.  I looked at this before a couple years back and at first it didn't seem interesting but in revisiting it, actually looks pretty good!

Quote from: joram on March 23, 2024, 08:12:35 AMOne of my all time favorite boardgames is getting a digital release.  It's by an indie guy who has a passion for the game and he did a great job porting it some time ago but it's been stuck in legal rights hell for quite awhile.

Source of the Nile on Steam

Check out the guys youtube channel for some playthroughs

Nice!  I have the original boardgame.  Its awesome.

I might actually have two copies.  I misplaced one, which was a birthday gift, so I bought another through Amazon's used store. Hoping to find the first copy still but I think it might have been purged accidentally.
