Oh my word, I REALLY want this to go ahead, but I doubt it will ever get the interest/money required. Android/Linux wargame set in the Crimea. Spooge!

It's currently a kickstarter with a measly goal of £25,000. They've currently got £230. With 19 days to go. :((

I'm hoping they still go ahead and release the title, as best they can, even if the Kickstarter fails.

Its funny - but it would seem to me it should be them posting here and not you. Thats not being bitchy - but its a wargame and you would think a little research on their behalf would have led them to at least a couple of places on the internet to start spreading the news. I really think some people think its enough to just put something up on kick starter and let it happen. I hope they make it happen - I like to see people realize their dreams - but just before xmas seems a bad time to launch and they really need to spread the word themselves everywhere they can. You have to wonder about that goal though - at £7 a pop thats 3,500 people they need to sign up ... for an android wargame about the crimea I think they may fall short. I hope they dont.
"you are the rule maker, the dictator, the mini- Stalin, Mao, Hitler, the emperor, generalissimo, the MAN. You may talk the talk and appear to be quite easy going to foster popularity, but to the MAN I say F*CK YOU." And Steve G is F******g rude ? Just another day on the BF forum ... one demented idiots reaction to BF disagreeing about the thickness of the armour on a Tiger II turret mantlet.

Well I've put my money in the pot, but from what I can see, they haven't got much of a chance really. Most of the backers seem to be friends of the dev team, going on surnames.

I've got to applaud what they're trying to do, but as you say zulu1966, getting even a few hundred people to purchase a game centered on the Crimean War would be a push, with all the power of being linked into several very active wargaming communities! But to secure £25k they'd need to fill their quota's at the top tiers where pledges are £5k and £2.5k a pop, and that's not going to happen any time soon.

Shame really. This sort of development should be encouraged, exploring niche wars, sadly it probably is just a pipe dream.

Yes - it should be encouraged no end in my view - the more esoteric the conflict the more likely I am to buy it. Just thinking that the project would be better done as a serious wargame - not a mobile android launch. I know android is a popular platform but I cant help think that going for a proper PC full on game would have a better chance. You might get some people to play a light world war two game on their mobile device or tablet ala panzer general - but the Crimea ?  Just strikes me the choice of platform is strange for the subject.

I'll post a link to their site on my wargaming club forum as this war deserves to be covered!

Hopefully you won't be the only one funding it Spelk.

Bless their cotton socks, they've released a wallpaper app.

They've still only managed £280 with 8 days to go. And that's including the £50 I pledged to their cause :(

Well it's all over, with a total of £307 on the table.

We would just like to give a very big thank you to everyone involved in the project,  both behind the scenes, and our backers.
Whilst this first go at funding the project hasn't been successful, we've learnt a massive amount about the whole kick starter process, and quite a lot more besides.  We've also made some invaluable contacts.

We would just like to say that our core idea and dream remains the same, so we will be back shortly.  Please watch this space...

Thanks again,

The Theatre of Conflict team.

It was a noble effort.. they say they have in development an engine of sorts to commit miniature wargaming to the Android, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for them.
