The newest ships released for Armada are the Imperial Light Carrier (as seen in the animated series Rebels)

and the Hammerhead corvettes for the Rebellion (as seen in the movie Rogue One)

A friend and I both picked up the new ships last week and finally got a chance to get them on the table this evening.

I played as the Empire and my fleet consisted of the light carrier with two Victory II class Star Destroyers as escort led by Admiral Sloane.  I had five TIE fighter squadrons, two TIE Interceptor squadrons, and 1 TIE advanced squadron for fighter support.  The dirty Rebels fielded an MC80 Mon Cal Assault Cruiser (aka the pickle), a Mk II Assault Frigate (aka the whale), two Hammerhead corvettes, a single A-Wing squadron and an E-Wing squadron.

It was a fun game but a pretty decisive win for the Rebels. The light carrier is very fragile! Very tough to keep it close enough to activate fighters while still protecting it. Mine died very early in the match before the fighter squadrons could really shine.  I did manage to wipe out the two Rebel squadrons in short order and then do a decent amount of damage to the Assault Frigate but then the carrier was blown up and figher control went out the window. The Victory Star Destroyers held up well and managed to take down the whale and both Hammerheads but Akbar was hardly touched and managed to take both out by turn 5.

The objective was opening salvo. When you get a Pickle with Akbar, Defiance, Opening Salvo, and a Concentrate Fire command....bad things happen to your hull integrity......Like 4 black, 6 red, and 2 blue dice worth of bad.

Good game though.

Thanks for the AAR! My local guy just got these in stock. £30 for the Light Carrier, £35 for the Hammerheads :( I'm going to have to save up a bit before buying these (and there are still other ships I don't have too!)

Haven't had a game of this in a while, but I've been keeping up with the FAQ and Errata. Lots of nerfs happened recently.

The light carrier can equip extended hangar bays and that gives it a squadron command value of 5.  Combine that with a squad command dial and you could activate 6 TIE Bombers in one action.  They had to nerf Major Rhymer or he could lead a 6 squad strike group throwing 6 black dice at medium range (more if you use TIE D fenders instead of bombers).  That's like two Gladiators but with better range AND they get to attack sequentially so the defending ship wouldn't be able to mitigate the hits via defence tokens.  Even with the nerf, it's still a deadly package, especially if you use Adm Chireneau to allow bombers to escape engagements.

It takes all my willpower not to buy into this game.

Give in.  It's awesome.   First rate components with a very well thought out design.  Tonnes of variety when it comes to fleet composition.  Fun to play.  Cool minis and it's God damned Star Wars!

I know. It's totally awesome SW eye candy and looks like a lot of fun, but I do not need another money sinkhole right now.

Need has nothing to do with it.  It's all about Star Destroyers.
