How were the first three?
I didn't play the first two but the third one was good iirc but as with all my games, I must've downed tools and moved onto so something new and shiny
oh - and just noticed this was in the Console thread - I never played it on console.

I loved them. My all time favorite video game RPG. Fantastic story that arced across all three games.
Only series I played through completely more than once.
Just checked and apparently I only have Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 - both on Steam. Perhaps it was 2 I played then
And going on what mirth said, I should probably give them another look because I love story telling games.
Looks like I have 1 and 2 in my Steam library.
Brilliant series...aside from Star Wars KotOR, the only RPGs I have ever played start to finish. The characters really draw you in and as the player, you are forced to make some very difficult decisions. Over the years, each iteration became less RPG-ish and more action-ish, but it stayed pretty well balanced.
Really looking forward to this.

Agreed. They're really RPG-lite, but incredibly polished and cinematic. There are shortcomings in each game, but the complaints are minor compared to the overall excellence.
I also appreciated the original story/universe, not something based on an pre-existing franchise.
Agreed with all the RPG love above. Outstanding story. Didn't get the butthurt over the ending of ME3 - I thought it was appropriate to wrapping it all up. I
Plus Shepherd gets to bone a blue alien.
11/10
(Is Shepherd back in this one? That's not been quite clear...)

I don't think so :-\
Sigh. Just installed Mass Effect...
Don't feel bad...I re-installed it a month or so ago. Still have the CD right here (how quaint, needing a CD to play a game).
Never could get it on with Ashley no matter how 'hard' Shepherd tried. I had my doubts it was even possible.
Ashley was kind of a bitch in that first game. Didn't stop me from sacrificing Kaidan to keep her around though.
I noticed mass effect 2 is now free on origin for those that don't own it already

Erry playthrough for me, this. O0
Shepherd don't play the skin flute, not on my watch.
Lord, I cannot wait for this game

Looks good.
I'm taking 3/21 off to play it :P
Wow, nothing from mirth yet. Must be a good game!
Spent a good portion of the day dealing with a clogged kitchen sink. Been playing the game for about an hour now. The facial animations are not great. Rest of the game is gorgeous. Did the canned intro stuff and just started exploring for real. Miss being Shepard, but having fun so far.

I suspect much of the criticism is way overblown by people who were unreasonably expecting this game to trigger the second coming of Christ. In the end. I would think the game will still play out like the prior games in the series. I've watched a lot of video of gameplay and the facial animations don't seem to detract in anyway from the game or the story. Furthermore, why are people expecting "War and Peace" epic quality writing here? So far from what I've seen, the dialogue is on par from what I remember in the prior games.
I'm pretty sure I will like this game. The bigger issue for me is the race thing. I get race and gender shoved in my face everyplace I look. I don't need it so blatantly shoved in my face during my downtime too.
Bottom line of the video : If you want more Mass Effect you probably will be OK. If you want something that outshines the original trilogy you could have a bad time.
I think it's unrealistic to expect it to outshine the original series. The first game was so fresh and original. It truly was a cinematic experience. As much as I loved the second and third games, they never quite had that same sense of excitement and wonder the first game provided. I'm not expecting this game to do that either.
Mirth did you decide this version is good or bad?
I haven't been playing it. That's probably an answer.
