Target For Today (Legion Wargames)
A B-17G And Her Crew AAR

Discussion Thread

04/20/18: Crew Full, but read below

Yes, I'm doing another AAR.

Yes, I intend to finish this one.

Yes, you're invited to sign up for spots on the plane!

If there's enough interest I'll start a separate thread and post mission information there. Here, we can discuss the nature of the game or have any questions, or anyone wanting to 'volunteer' their forum name to 'man' one of the ten positions on this B-17G. In the near future I'll probably modify this first post, or just add a second post that will be altered on an ongoing basis, to indicate the bomber's status.

Our goal: to survive 25 missions against German and other Axis targets in occupied Europe.

I have chosen to do Campaign #2, which takes place in the 8th Air Force area of operations, from May 1943 through November 1943. From the game manual:

Quote[This period] saw the extension of bombing missions across much of Germany. But German fighter defenses were at peak strength and efficiency, and bomber losses were high. Following the heavy casualties of the "Black Thursday" Schweinfurt raid in October 1943, deep strikes into Germany were suspended until an escort was introduced that could follow the bombers to and from their targets.

This is one of the more challenging Campaigns, I think - at least from my read-through.

Here are the positions available and any crew / forum members thereby assigned. I will avoid putting myself into the bomber for now.

Bombadier: SDR
Navigator: mirth
Pilot: BC
Co-Pilot: JasonPratt
Engineer/Top Turret: Barthheart
Radio Operator: bob48
Ball Gunner: Gusington
Left Waist: UCG
Right Waist: Jarhead
Tail Gunner: Judge Dredd

Warm Bodies Back-ups: Nefaro, Shelldrake, GJK, Staggerwing

Possibly to be shanghai'd: BayonetBrant, Star, bbmike, or literally any other forum member, possibly

Admittedly I should give this another day or two to get people to sign on but as I said, I'm eager to get started, and having used the B-29 AAR's sign-up list as best I could, the above spots are now populated. If interested anyway just post in this thread saying so and I'll get you in the recruit barracks. :)

And if your name is on this roster and you do not care to have it associated with this, tell me that as well. PM me if you don't feel like posting it here.

Thanks!

Barthheart

OUTPOST GAMMA!!!

QuoteNo Photoshopping other than maybe a couple of things I might post to this thread. I don't want to get too far in the weeds and/or need to rely on that program for spitting out content, which kind of screwed me in the Outpost Gamma AAR (some of the files went corrupt and I'm still trying to find time to see if I have any backups anywhere).

Silent Disapproval Robot

I'll accept reasonable hand-drawn facsimiles.

Fine.  Bombardier then.

Trust me, your posts for OG are the only reason I'm still wanting to continue that. I've got a couple more externals I need to check. One of which is at the office and I've not been there in a bit.

I'll start drafting names if I have to. Starting with Gus in the Ball Turret. And Sir Slash in the Radio Room.

...

Gus is the only one who will fit in the ball turret....

JasonPratt

Traditionally I go in the copilot seat.

I'm going to just put myself in the Pilot seat, unless someone else wants it. If I gotta be the Pilot, though, I hope I make it through 25 missions. #noBIP

So, ripping off my B-29 AAR, I found this list of 'crew':

QuotePilot (CAPT): Banzai_Cat (because if this thing crashes, it'll be my fault, and I'm rollin' the dice, so...)
Copilot (1LT): JasonPratt
Bombadier (1LT): Nefaro
Navigator (2LT): mirth
Flight Engineer (MSGT): Barthheart
Radio Operator (SGT): bob48
CFC* (SSGT): Jarhead
Left Gunner (SGT): Shelldrake
Right Gunner (SGT): GJK
Radar Operator (SSGT): undercovergeek
Tail Gunner (SSGT): Staggerwing

That's Stagger, UCG, GJK, Shelldrake, Jarhead, bob48, mirth, Nefaro, and by two votes Gus, to be added to the crew roster. I'll go ahead and do that in the next day or so if nobody else speaks up. I'd like to get started by tonight, actually, but would rather fly fully crewed.

Me as navigator, priceless  :P

Only if we end up being lead bomber at some point. ;D

I will unerringly guide us to every brothel in Germany.
