Need to measure the eaves troughing so I can install some leaf guards, too many tall trees now.
Also need to make a mirror frame to continue finishing the basement bathroom. Then the drop ceiling is the last thing and it's done.

Well, for most of the week (up to and including this morning while I'm at work) I've been defragging the main data drive. With the system drive still to go!

.....yep. All week. That's how bad it was.  :buck2:

I thought I had been doing good by defragging the data drive (which is disc, not solid-state) once or twice a month. Then last week, after several years of using the free version of CCleaner, I upgraded to the full paid suite while it was on sale (since it does a better job on my system than Avast's goofball attempts -- they should just stick to anti-virus), which came with a nice defragmenter. Great, I can finally look at my disc sectors.....!

Oh.

:buck2: :buck2: :buck2: :pullhair: :hide: :timeout: :wow:

So, aside from some Grogpublic umpiring, and the occasional Lords of Waterdeep mp turn (which I can do on my phone), and the Age of Wonders 3 mp game with AzTank, Yskonyn, and the Frog, I've been off the computer altogether this week. The defragger runs all day while I'm at work; then I come home a do a few things; then I set it up to run some more and go play my PS3.

In this case, I haven't run through the Prince of Persia Sands trilogy (or quadrilogy now) for a year or two, so I've been doing that. This year, I discovered something on the second (released) game, Warrior Within, that I somehow never once noticed before: despite its ferocious combat reputation, being far more bloody and explicit than the first game, the game RARELY REQUIRES ME TO ACTUALLY FIGHT ANYONE!

Yep, I can just scuttle or fiip past most enemies. Even some minor bosses. This is going to cut down my usual 10 hour playtime substantially!

In Sands 1, most fights are necessary in order to unlock save points, or because the enemies will kill you if you try to just go past them. And the Prince levels up, in a way, by fighting, so skipping the fights, even when technically possible, is not a good idea. Also you're often working with Princess Farah and she'll stop to fight instead of continuing on (though she's far more useful than most 'escort' missions.)

In Forgotten Sands (set between 1 and 2), the Prince levels up again from fighting, so even when it can be skipped it isn't a good idea. Plus the mobs are much larger, making it tougher to skip most fights.

In Sands 2 (Warrior Withing), however, the Prince levels up through simply progressing through the game, aside from the 9 secret Life Upgrades (which don't involve fighting either). So in most cases, the Prince can just block or avoid enemies until you get him to the next stage in the parkour path. And now that I have finally noticed this, I have also realized THE GAME WAS HINTING AT THIS ALL ALONG! The Prince (being an edgy grunge type temporarily for this game) will growl things like, "I don't have time for this" and "You're wasting my time" and similar things suggesting that he could just be going along the puzzle-paths instead of fighting!

I'll be curious now to see how much of this skippableness carries over to the finale, The Two Thrones. I do know (from long experience) that they redesigned the combat system so that you can save time by stealth-killing enemies in your path (a game mechanic leading into Assassin's Creed, the series that has essentially replaced PoP in Ubisoft's stable), but many of them might be just skippable, too. I don't recall any upgrading or leveling up coming from fighting standard guys in that game. (Although during the Dark Prince segment, he harvests time sand off dead foes, which is necessary for him to survive as he runs out of life otherwise.)

Dammit Carl!

House painting/maintenance is on the horizon and will pretty much take up the whole weekend, methinks.

Otherwise, if I can get the time, I think I'll just be shooting things in Insurgency: Sandstorm and/or RS2.

Gusington

That is a quality, classic, insane post from Pratt up there.

I have returned to The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine, and am about 2/3 of the way through the main story missions, and the vampire enemies have been having me for lunch. They are uber powerful and take no crap and I have been getting my ass kicked. Finally advanced passed most of them after hours of bloody fighting last night and then advanced in to this bizarre fairy tale world, where a wicked witch proceeded to kick my ass.

I finally beat the snot out of her too but between these new enemies, my gross out in Resident Evil 7 and getting mired down in Hellblade last weekend it's like all my games are out to get me.

To relax a bit, I will be starting Thronebreaker this weekend as well. Hopefully it will allow me to chill, even just a little bit.

DoctorQuest

I have some time tomorrow so I am getting back into Enemy Engaged - Comanche vs. Hokum with the 1.16 community mod.

http://eechcentral.simhq.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

The sim now supports a much wider range of video resolutions and they are trying to do what they can with improving the graphics. It will never be DCS but I think it is more than good enough to make the sim enjoyable.

There are 9 helicopters modeled in the game that are flyable with their own cockpits, and seven of those have 3D cockpits. On the Blue side, these are the AH-64A Apache, AH-64D Apache Longbow, the RAH-66 Comanche, the AH-1Z Viper, and the OH-58D Kiowa. On the Red side, these are the Ka-52 "Hokum B", the Ka-50 "Black Shark", the Mi-28N "Havoc", and the Mi-24V Hind. All other helicopters in the game are flyable, but they use a 'default' cockpit from the Apache A.

The maps now include the following:

Thailand
Cuba
Georgia
Taiwan
Lebanon
Yemen
Alaska
Aleut
Kuwait Gulf War
Libya
Grand Canyon
Mars (yes, the planet)
Alexander Archipelago
Skagway
Saudi Arabia Red Sea
Kenai Peninsula
Afognak
Puerto Rico
Jordan Dead Sea
Lake Powell
Hawaii
Mesa
Afghanistan

Ditto to the square of heck yeah!  :o :smitten:

Apparently, only EECH is needed now? Is AH effectively included in EECH with the allmods?

With the EEAH install you get working gauges for the Havoc cockpit. The Apache and Havoc choppers are included in the mod.

EECH is available at a reasonable price over at GOG. (As is EEAH.)

Huw the Poo

With the dismal failure of Borderlands 2 last week, my gaming group and I are looking for a new weekly game.  Current contenders are Don't Starve Together and Minecraft, so I'm sure both will be played this weekend.

And of course, over on the PS4 my love affair with The Division 2 continues.  It's been such a good launch.  Certain other developers should take note...

GroggyGrognard

More The Division 2 this weekend.  I am having a lot of fun with this one.
