A few years ago, the restored Lufthansa J52 spent a few days at Newcastle Airport, and we saw it several times when it flew quite low pretty much over where we live. It is indeed a unique sound.

To say I was excited to see it is a bit of an understatement.

IIRC, another other female pilot who earned her wings at the same time was killed when her early-model Tomcat had an engine flameout during a carrier landing.
