Might as well start this now, since we're now looking ahead to the draft

Ah, you gotta give Jim McMahon a break! Dude was completely entertaining. Some of the choices are spot on though, if you are old enough to remember Conrad Dobler play, that guy was one mean SOB.

I somehow missed that the Raiders are moving to Las Vegas. LOL

Wonder if the NFL is considering expanding the league even further. That'll just water down an already thin product.

I think the expansion they are really looking at is outside the US.

Yeah, that was another surprise, until I thought about it a bit. I figured London might be a leader since they do so many pre-season games there...and maybe Mexico City. Then I read up and saw Brazil and Japan are options, too.  :o

London has been getting regular season games for at least ten years.  Maybe more.  They had three, I think, last year.  If expansion out of the country is going to work, they are going to have to find enough regional partners to make a division.  Otherwise, going to Tokyo and coming back home, or Rio, or London, is going to cause a mutiny.

The head of the NFLPA just said the other day that they are preparing for war at the next labor negotiations.  I believe those are in 2021.  And they have to sort out Thursday night games, quality of play and officiating, and replay, at the very least.  Oh, and what is a catch?!  If I was the players, I would give the owners expansion, or the ok to play regular season games in more locations outside the continental U.S., for everything else they are asking for.  And not a cent less.

One of the big ones, talking about the endless 24-7 churn of crap, to the point where you're inventing 2019 mock draft articles just to fill space until training camp starts: "I still love my job. I still lover covering what I cover. But, I don't really lover doing it in May and June."

The best matchup going into the game was Auburn - Washington.  It ended up being a good game with Auburn winning what was essentially a home game.

This is a long business story about the NFL.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2018-09-13/nfl-makes-more-money-than-ever-and-things-have-never-been-worse

Main points:
1] NFL is generating more cash than ever before
2] NFL viewership continues to decline
3] NFL had 37 of the top 50 viewed shows on TV - while their ratings fall.
4] Youth football participation dropped 22% last year (attributed to concussion research)
5] NFL is now one of the top politicized brands in the USA measured by ratings of Republicans/Democrats and the difference between them.

In terms of providing a ton of facts, this story was pretty awesome.

The quote that I thought was the best was "The NFL is the top performer in the Hospice Ward of broadcast television."

Quote"We knew that they couldn't hang with us," Michigan's Chase Winovich said. "We did what we have to do. Sometimes your little brother starts acting up and you've just got to put 'em in place."

That was a great, story book ending! My guess for the final four is 'Bama, Clemson, Notre Dame and Oklahoma.  I know it wouldn't happen, but, I'd like to see Georgia play Clemson and Alabama play Oklahoma.

I concur with your guess on the football playoff teams.  Sucks for Georgia who are probably much better than Oklahoma.  But life is not fair.

Alabama vs. Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, Clemson vs. Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl.

Man, I love my Sooners but I'm afraid they won't be much more than a speed bump for Alabama.

I hosted poker, made the chili recipe I posted, and had 10 players and 2 nonplaying guests.  Had 2 TVs, one on each side of the table.  Since the game was in Auburn, people's response to the game ranged from mildly happy to ecstatically happy.

I have never lost when a major football game was playing during poker.  I think some of the others are more distracted than I.

Statistically speaking, I have a positive expectation when I sit down to play.  I can calculate odds in my head, don't drink much (the diabetes handles that one), and know to occasionally do crazy things so I don't become too predictable.  But this is all in a low stakes game where people don't really care if they end up dropping $30.  Still, two of us have a strong positive expectation and two others have a strong negative expectation - but they get away from their spouses and drink with their buddies.

This is mostly social poker, sort of like social wargaming and social RPGs.  I want to do my best and avoid doing something I know is dumb - but I really don't care if I end up losing.  My wife calls our games "the mens drinking, joke and lie telling social group with gambling."  We are blessed that I'm a good cook and one of the other guys is an outstanding cook.

You start playing high stakes poker and it becomes work.  Screw that, I'm retired.

Cute video and sadly true. I learned a long time ago the way to enjoy gambling is to never bet more that you're prepared to lose. I loved getting hammered at the local dog track while betting $2 a race, I never cared when I lost.
