THX that you started it before Germany is out of the tournament ;)
that could be happening on Saturday in the match against Sweden :o
(Sweden just won against SouthKorea an hour ago and so they will go on deep defense tactic on Saturday and it will be even harder for Germany to goal against them as normal)
I am pissed, no motorcade celebration for me so far ..maybe non at all in 2018 :'(
4wheeler decoration at the ready as in 2014

plus some banners to be installed easier on the hood as my makeshift from 2014 and magnetic-mat flags for the doors O0
and because its has become also partially a German (inner)politics demonstration these days more then ever too
> Green-Left haaaaate any kind of 'patriotic expressions' and any kind of black-red-gold on display,
local Antifa activists roam through cities at night and steel car flags and other decoration to burn them as a stack and have contests running whit other cities (like Hamburg vs Berlin Antifa) who got more "Nazi loot" destroyed.
Go figure, prominent Green Party figurine Claudia Roth, demanded to not show black-red-gold, because our official national colors get "abused by the AFD to signal exclusion against people" (especially against those Turks with German passport national team members, who support 'dictator' Erdogan in his re-election with a photo and donation of jersey with handwritten inscription "For my revered President - sincerely."

i got me a spiked helmet fan head to ware at the motorcade ;D

I'm not, and never have been, a football fan (or whatever you colonials call it) so it all goes over my head. And there may well be a football pun in that statement, but hey, what do I know :-)
So I've watched more World Cup than you this year?
yes
Rock you like a HarryKane \m/
England won 2:1 against Tunesia with two goals from their captain (Harry Kane) , the second one in the 90+1 minute
i like to have England in the round of the last 16 :)
it leads to classic matches ...duno, if England vs Germany is possible on the way to the final in an elimination match phase, those classy matches when the real World Cup starts.
That second goal from Kane looked like a practice drill. How the hell do you leave Harry Kane wide freakin' open at the back post with the game on the line? I mean, look, if a ball pinball around and John Stones happens to get it, fine. You tip your cap to the fact that a defender happened to snag a goal. But leaving England's most dangerous striker wide open? How are you not marking him man-to-man?
Thank God Germany didn't have this much luck in the war.
The man who was playing one of the worst matches in his career made the 2-1 in the final minute of the ridiculously long extra time, after Sweden was denied what looked like a penalty in the first half.
Beautiful goal by Toni Kroos, undeserved victory.

i am sure the video referee checked it :P
Just back from the motorcade :D all went well
the local cops did a good job, some crossing where blocked with bikes and the stream got directed in a i guess preplaned pattern and had patrol cars floating in the motorcade too and interdicted when 'spectators' tried to block it (either cause of simple joy and drunkness, or political reasons) but tolerated all things that might be a litte illegal as long as safety of a person himself or others was not endangered and the 'natural time limit' get not stretched to long into the night. and managed to get the car traffic of non football people tag along and the main axis open.
Even the chaos is (self)organized in Germany, i love it:)

They should. As I've noted elsewhere, they have enough depth that their B-team could make the knockout rounds.
Last game, they started with Vermaelen, Kompany, Fellaini, Januzaj, Dembele, and Batshuayi... on the bench. Yikes

2) Lalas isn't known for his eloquence
I've watched ten or so hours of World Cup this year. I watched the 2nd half of Portugal/Spain. All of Belgium/Tunisia, Germany/Sweden bits and parts of two or three others. It's obvious even to my untrained eye who has talent. And I see that the reputation footballers have earned for going down like they were shot when someone gets within ten feet or so of them is well deserved.

You should try cricket :
The oldest and longest format is called
"Test Cricket"- This is the original form of cricket invented by the British.
It is played over 5 days, minimum 90 overs to be played in each day. ( An "over" is a span of 6 balls continuously bowled by 1 particular bowler. After bowling an over, he is replaced by another bowler to bowl another "over").
Minimum 6 hours of play is scheduled for each day. Each team gets to bat twice in a span of 5 days. each slot is called an "inning".
The
shorter version of cricket is called "One Day" match: Invented in 1970's, each match consists of 50 overs being played by each side and the team scoring more runs in their quota of 50 overs wins.
A team is normally given 3 hrs 30 mins of time to bowl its quota of 50 overs plus there is a break of 40–45 mins between the two innings
so the game lasts for ~ 8 hours.

Y'all can make fun of soccer all you want but so far there's been only one game that finished 0-0, and that was yesterday's France-Denmark game where both teams already knew they were advancing and just didn't want to get anyone hurt before the knockout rounds.
I thought they had a magic spray they used is someone got hurt so they could keep playing.
They've all been 0-0 games as far as I'm concerned. 0 interest on my part and 0 minutes watched :P
If they could brake up the game in smaller parts (time-outs ?) so the US TV channels could throw in a bunch of commercials, they might be more inclined to show games.

There's no shortage of soccer on TV over here. We typically get 3-5 EPL games/week on NBC Sports, and often another on "Big" NBC, and all commercial-free.
MLS typically has at least 2 games/week (1ea on Fox Sports and ESPN)
Fox Sports shows 3-4 Bundesliga games each week, plus they have Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup contracts, and between FS1 and FS2, on weeks where there's UCL/EL games, we'll get at least 6 live games, and another 4-6 on delay, especially during group stages, all live in the afternoon here, midweek.
BeIN Sports has La Liga and Serie A, so you can get a lot of those games, but you're paying for extra channels at that point.
None of this includes digital-only subscriptions like NBC Gold or ESPN+ which have a ton of games, including English Championship and USL (2nd tier US league).
Heck, we have a local station here that broadcasts the NCFC (local USL team) over-the-air for all home games.
(fun fact, the color commentator - Jason Garey - is a former player for the team here who grew up in Louisiana, playing on youth soccer teams with 2 of my cousins, until he graduated high school and headed to Maryland for college)

S, plural
if soccer was such a losing proposition, why are the big broadcasters sinking more money into showing games?
I get that you might not be entertained by it (I don't enjoy watching NASCAR) but clearly there's enough of a market for it to get at least 4 different broadcast families involved (NBC, ESPN, Fox, BeIN)
I won't commit to watching anything past the World Cup, but, I have enjoyed what I've watched. I have even gotten up early enough the last three weekends to watch several full matches and parts of others. I like that there's no commercials. And extra time is just cool as hell. I'll be up early both days this weekend to catch both matches each day. Can't wait!
Yeah, but you like baseball too, so there's already evidence that you have no taste.

Just watched that real time. I also noticed that the overwhelmingly male England section didn't get as much screen time celebrating as the forlorn young Swedish women mourning. Totally not complaining. :smitten:
I read a study that explained the homeliness of the brits was due to 1000 years of selective Viking raiding. Only the ugly were left while the Vikings became Norse supermodels
As a Scot living in England, I can tell you it's a nightmare - and not for the reasons you may think.
Most of the Croatian team look like their hobbies include chewing aluminum cans and ethnic cleansing.
Some of them certainly are rough, and Modric and Lovren may in the near future be accused of perjury in a case against some criminal and club owner who fled to Bosnia to avoid imprisonment.
However, the game from the weekend probably wore them out, the field looked like a sponge even though there was no water on the grass. Some of them took a blow or two, it was fairly rough. All in all, the English team plays and wins in very unimaginative but highly effective ways, just like the French. For all the talk about the French superstar generation and the nice actions by individuals, the teamplay isn't pretty to look at.
Highlights in today's game include that 5-3-2 defensive wall on the English half and yet another goal from a set piece situation with Kane failing spectacularly when attempting to score a goal during normal play.
So far, England are playing their gameplay better than the Croatians are.
The biggest difference with the England team compared to almost any other (especially the 90s-era teams) is that these guys seem to genuinely enjoy representing England and really believe in the shirt.
So many of their predecessors treated playing for the national team like it was a chore to be endured instead of an honor to be earned and enjoyed.
The English attempts to turn it into a masonry match have ended after the 1-1, that's something.
It makes the sport much less appealing if a team just defends and then starts running when there's a chance to counter.
I do hope it won't be another extra time+penalties game.

There's only one shape of ball allowed in Alabama, and it's covered in pigskin. So, you're right. Noone to bet with. I would have taken England if I could.
Well done by France. Either team would've been a worthy champion, but I am glad France won.
Wow! A torrent of scoring for soccer 4-2.
Translated into Alabamian that was a 28-14 football game which implies both teams had good defenses or that it was raining hard during the game.

The real downpour didn't start until after the game, after storm clouds had been moving in as a final climactic finale to the World Cup.
It wasn't one of those lame "defend and start running" game by the French, they won more or less fairly. The two French normal goals could've been held had Subasic been in good shape, the ball went right next to him in both cases.
The handsball was unfortunate, but also careless: it's the third or fourth time the Croatians did that during the tournament, they should've known better by then.
Mandzukic's own header goal was unlucky, one of the defenders of my local team also made an own goal that way a few times in recent years. Mandzukic's other goal was pure comedy gold.
the aftermath....
WTF ? the moment ...when you realise to generate 1 Mbappé soccer star for your team you also have to pay for it with 100 000 petty crime migrants offspring from the Banlieue areas in day to day live in the 4 years period between cup is played #:-)
btw, no riots in Croatia.
ok Mike - dare I ask? How do you come to the conclusion they were migrants? It obviously wasn't the colour of their skin, because there were allsorts there.
So.....?
I ask because I saw plenty of English supporters (and full blown English people - not migrants) smashing bus stops, ambulances, taxis, random cars - and that's when they got through to the Quarter finals!!
It's that flagrant, uncorroborated, anti-migrant BS that gets on my ample bosom Mike.

JD, i did not do any forensic analysis of the video ...its not necessary because its about the bigger picture of what comes out 'good' and 'bad' from having lot of
The Banlieue (a special term in French) in a country.
You can find out about long history of riots starting out of The Banlieue(s) on your own.
(and i don't care about what British Hooligans do on their nice island and why)
Yesterday short after the game the usual political suspect groups (we are out of R&P so i don't get more specific) were celebrating "that a French team of 23 with 16 migrant offspring including 7 Muslims were beating the 'angry white men' homogeneous Croatian team and that it is a role model for our society future and that The Banlieues produce such a wonderful player like Mbappé "
digressions
one professor located in Maryland/USA even claimed that in 2026 Germany will win the Cup with a team of mostly Syrian refugees! ... and T H A T really got 'on my ample bosom' (what ever that Scottish term of outrage? actually means ;-) )Now when i heard about the riots all over France (in cities with a The Banlieue) this morn
it came to me that to have a Mbappé is quite nice, but surely comes with a fat price tag for the French society all other days
yes, but you're also trying to tie post-victory riots to a specific racial group
it's not like there were only dark-skinned folks rioting in Philly when the Eagles won
it's not like the only people invading the pitch in Manchester when City clinched the Premier League were dark skinned
you're seeing the lens you want to see, because to you, anyone with a dark tan is somehow unworthy of your consideration.
But it's OK*, we're used to it at this point...
* I mean, it's not OK but rather "we know we're not going to change you so we're just going to shrug and move on and continue to discount your viewpoints as already hopelessly biased and fact-averse"
