After some visits to Veghel in Post Scriptum,  I took a quasi historical look at the place in Where Eagles Dare.  It's north of the fartherest north bridge to be taken by the 101st.  The 501st regiment took it on day one of Market Garden despite landing mostly in the wrong place due to the loss of the pathfinder plane.  In Post Scriptum the 9th SS holds the town and the 101st attacks.  In reality, by the time KG Chill attacked near Veghel, the 506 was moving through to the north and 44 RTR was on hand.  KG Chill had heavy sp AT guns and 44 RTR had to leave most of the fighting to the 501.  I staged the battle as if it had happened on the 21st when the 101st was not quite so concentrated at Veghel.  KG Chill is attacking in the rain off to the west but US artillery is already inflicting hideious losses.

Anyway here is a vaguely historical look at Veghel:

Life is rough under artillery fire.  3pm.  KG Chill has pushed back the 501's outposts but still has some units that need to recover their composure.  Three companies were completely put out of action and three are not particularly interested in pushing on to Veghel:

5pm...the big thrust reaches the main US positions.  Still raining.  Close range fire hits a lot of KG Chill infantry:

Still around 5pm.  Still raining and the US artillery hits KG Chill.  Again.  And the Bloody Bloodbath blunders on:

Still in the rain, the 506 slogs up to defend the raised railway in the early evening:
