From the GOG sale I picked up Freedom Force (to run on Windows 10) and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
On Steam I picked up OGRE for about $13 with tax.

I enjoyed The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. Kind of an investigative walking sim, with a decent story, a interesting investigative technique and just about the right length. If you enjoy it , you might give Firewatch a look.

Yeah I'm having a pretty good time so far. It does feel a little...empty I guess but I haven't hit 20 yet so I guess this is considered part of the tutorial.

I pre-ordered the Ultimate edition and played it a bit when it came out, but stopped before any of the actual expansions hit.
(Despite having the "Ultimate" edition I still need to buy some of the expansions)

Is it true those of use who shelled so many bucks over it will only get a silly little cosmetic in compensation?

I don't think so. I have ultimate edition and I got the expansions for free.
