I couldn't help myself. I was at Duxford Air Show today and that means model purchase

It's got ALOT of photoetched parts - never done those before.

1:48 - that'll take up some shelf space!!

You'll be needing to build an extension to the house at this rate!

Not another one  :2funny:

Looking at the instructions, this doesn't look like a difficult build. There's only 3 individual pages of build instructions - and there's 2 for the decals!!

However, the photoetched stuff looks very complicated. I'll have to have a look at what's involved with photoecthed parts - I've never used them. Anyone used photoetched parts before?

Damn! Fifty quid for a model?  :o

Things are rather more expensive here in the UK.

But the way I justify the price now is...

  • It's a Hasegawa
  • It's 1:48 modern jet - so considerably more plastic than a 1:48 WWII fighter - I'd expect a 1:48 WWII bomber to be expensive
  • It's got lots of extras. I reckon the PE (photoetched) parts are probably worth £20-£30

The model is actually showing on Hannants website as £59.99 (https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/HAPT038) and it includes the Eduard Big-Ed (https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/EBIG4858) sets (5 in all) costing £32.60

So - it's a bit of a bargain. I'd like to know what you US boys would pay for these items?

I wasn't judging Judge. ;)

That's about $67 US. I see prices here on Google all over the place, but Walmart is advertising it for $35 US. That's about 26 quid. Here's the link, I've no idea if it's the same thing or not.

I haven't made models since 1992 or so - my last was the Enterprise-D and I was pretty proud of it because I took my absolute time with it and thought it looked good. Usually I'm crap at model making, because I always rushed it. The more I look at your posts though the more I want to put one together, now.

Oh no BC - sorry - I didn't mean my post to come across like that. When I said "I'd like to know what you US boys would pay for these items?", I genuinely wanted to know what you'd pay in the US...so I went looking.

It's actually showing as $64.00
https://www.megahobby.com/products/f-a-18f-super-hornet-1-48-hasegawa.html

And the additional items are showing as $32.00
https://www.1001modelkits.com/f-a-18-hornet-model-kit/38815-eduard-big-ed-ebig4858-mcdonnell-douglas-f-a-18f-super-hornet-designed-to-be-used-with-model-kits-from-hasegawa-includes-all-t-8591437648580.html

Now - we could talk about the pathetic value of the pound against the dollar but what's the point  :'(

So in the US you'd pay $92.00 for that package where I would've paid £92 - a conversion rate of £1:$1  :knuppel2:

Given the current conversion rate of £1=$1.35, if the conversion rate was being applied, it should've cost me £68.

Your link is for a diecast model (pre built, metal). So it's not the same thing. The item I linked to for Megahobby is the kit.

It is expensive. Don't get me wrong. But I knew those additional items were between £5 and £10 each...so I knew I was getting a bargain. I didn't know at the time of purchase that the aircraft cost £60. I doubt I'd have paid that for it - especially without the extras.

yaaaaa photo etch!!!   do not play with that over a carpet!
I also recommend getting one of these tools:
Toonces - Don't ask me, I just close my eyes and take it.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

and this might help your build:

please post a pic of the photo etch fret.
You had to post other people's work and pile the pressure on  :knuppel2:

I won't get to this for some time, so I'll probably forget to look  >:D But thanks.

As for the photo-etch frets, I'll post a few pics tonight. In fact, I'll unbox the kit and post photos of all the parts. It looks like a monster...about a foot long
