Title: Xbox one
Post by: Emeraldlis on December 14, 2016, 01:08:30 PM
So we have an Xbox one console in our house , it was a recent acquisition ( Saturday , haha ) we've got three games so far ;

Forza horizon three
Lego the hobbit
Star Wars battlefield

I'm addicted to all three ALREADY  ::) I'm well impressed with Lego hobbit , wasn't expecting much , but am genuinely blown away with graphics , gameplay and story !
But I'm just wondering what you guys are playing if you own Xbox 1 , and what you're enjoying . I'm going into GameStop again at the weekend and I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the games out there . So in your guys opinion what should I avoid or buy  O0

If you're into RPGs, Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition are both excellent.

F1 2016 if you like racing games. It apparently plays well with a controller.

I wanted another driving game , because I'm finding that in forza the steering is hard to get down , it over steers EVERYTHING ......either that or I'm a terrible console driver , it's very possible ! I wonder if anyone else has this problem with that game ? Gorgeous graphics driving round Aussie though :)   I also love buying and creating my own cars , it's very cool  8) then crashing them into every available tree whilst trying to keep on the road  ;D

I just ordered another console off eBay as well , copper shadow , couldn't resist  ^-^

Bayonet JR is addicted to Destiny

I've been impressed with the vast array of things you can do in that game, with multiplayer missions, side-events (like the Sparrow Racing), solo campaign, and multi-player sandbox games.

Yeah I saw destiny as a bundle and wondered about it . But do you have to be online to play that ? I saw something on the packet about needing Xbox live , the problem for me is that I can't get an internet provider to give me unlimited data ....or find my house , ugh  :pullhair:  but it sounds like an awesome game , the sparrow racing sounds fun .

For me the XBOX is all about Halo. The Master Chief Collection is a must buy, as is Halo 5. The games are loaded with content and I just love the story, belligerents, weapons and vehicles.

Other than that, I can't say there is anything I play that is exclusive to the console, other than some older 360 games, such as Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption is a great game and was given Xbox One compatibility earlier this year.

That's good to know thanks , and the fact that your son enjoys it so much makes me think that my daughter could get into this game as well .

I'll read up on halo reviews and see what I think :)   thanks for putting that suggestion my way because getting personal recommendations is a whole lot better than blowing 50....60....70 quid on a game and then just hating it !!

I was mistakenly told that all 360 games are compatible with Xbox one , and I picked up a 360 game in CEX , which is a cash exchange shop and has a lot of choice with games , but when I got it home it wouldn't play , and also the guy on the checkout was a little distracted and mistakenly put a 360 disc in my Xbox one cover ....suffice it to say neither one played on my console !!, which was an hour round trip of taking both games back !! NOT happy !  :(

Not all 360 games are compatible but it is a substantial, and growing, list

That's a very handy list to have , thanks for posting it  :bd: seeing sonic the hedgehog on their  takes me back to my sega glory days ......ahhhhhhh ! I was hoping to see Simpsons hit and run on that list too , but it's not there . I played the heck out of that on the old console and loved it . I never cracked the ending though .....it still haunts me !!!! LOL

Destiny is from the same studio that makes the Halo series, Bungie. They are very similar in terms of look and story. However, Destiny is much more geared toward a multi-player and co-operative experience, whereas Halo has a much more fully featured and lengthy single player campaign. That being said, Halo has also developed an extremely robust multi-player suite of options.

Hi jarhead :)  that's cool info thanks ! Both options aren't a problem for me , multi player or single , I game with my daughter mostly . Is it true that I need to be online to play halo ? I had halo in my hand at the store .......and I was umming and ahhhing , about whether it was playable off line , I should have asked in the store , but I was in a rush to go somewhere else !!! So I put it down and didn't buy it , now I'm just annoyed !!!! Lol .

Are we talking about the Master chief Collection or Halo 5? I'm pretty sure that all of the campaigns are playable offline. However, you'll probably need an online connection in order to run any of the co-op or mp modes. You may also be restricted from earning certain achievements and unlocks without a live connection.

Good question ....halo , just the first one I was looking at . But I also spotted halo five , and a combined pack of them all , minus 5 .Do you think it's necessary to buy all of them to fully get immersed and understand the story line ?  Do you think just jumping straight into five would ruin anything ?

The story is long and at times somewhat convoluted, but the game is still very much enjoyable, even if you have no idea what is going on, or why. However, you may get more enjoyment out of the experience if you do play it out in order. It will give you an appreciation for the vast scale and epic scope of the story. The Master Chief collection is a tremendous value. There is literally hundreds of hours of gaming there. It includes every game, Halo 1 through 4, as well as some of the games that were released in between, such as Halo: ODST. All of the games have been modernized and upgraded graphically to take advantage of current generation hardware. If you could only choose between the MCC and Halo 5, personally, I would start with the MCC.

You've given me something to think about now jarhead . I was just thinking about buying the first one to test it out and see if I liked it , but I do like the info you've just given me about everything being updated in the MCC . It seems like a waste to buy only the first one and then shell out for the rest separately .And to be honest , I think that swings it for me , I'd like the updated graphics  :) I'm going to have to save for that though , but when I get it and play it , I'll definately let you know how I get on with it . Thanks for all the info on that , it's definately helped me to make a more informed decision  O0

I think buying Halo 1 at this point would be a total waste. Go for the MCC as soon as you can manage it.

Hope you haven't run in to this on your own, but, my daughter tells me you can't play Destiny on the PS4 without having Playstation's proprietary online service active.  Pretty sure it's the same for XBOXOne.  You'll know better as you have the game and the console to play it.

Once I get my system all setup and updated this evening, I'm planning on buying Dragon Age Inquistion Complete which is on sale for like $12 and Diablo 3 ultimate edition which is on sale for like $24.

Xbox might be a little different. You can get a 'silver' membership for free which gets you all the basic services. Xbox Gold costs, but you really only need it if you're interested in online play.

DOES DESTINY REQUIRE PLAYSTATION®PLUS OR XBOX LIVE GOLD?
ALL PLATFORMS
Q. Does Destiny require PlayStation®Plus or Xbox Live Gold?
No, PlayStation®Plus and Xbox Live are not required to play Destiny. However, PlayStation®Plus or Xbox Live Gold is required to access some content. Please see below for more information.

PlayStation®Plus

What is PlayStation®Plus?

PlayStation®Plus works differently for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles.
PS4: PlayStation®Plus is required to join Fireteams and play some online activities, such as Strikes, the Raid, and the Crucible.
PS3: PlayStation®Plus is not required.

Xbox Live Gold

What is Xbox Live?

Xbox Live Gold is required to join Fireteams and play some online activities on the Xbox One or Xbox 360, such as Strikes, the Raid, and the Crucible.

Please note: Xbox Live Gold is required to download and play on Xbox platforms. 48-hour, 7-day, and 14-day Xbox Live Gold trials are not supported on Xbox 360.

Right, but for Destiny, certain functions are not available unless you do have the additional service which is outlined in that message.

I have Gold, not even sure if I even need it myself but thought in the past it was required for the sports games I played to get updates/rosters and such...now it is on auto renewal and always forget to check it out before it renews again:)

Before next renewal I'll be looking at it closely.....I never play multiplayer so maybe not required at all for the types of games I play.....just renewed in November, so I have awhile to figure it out.

MS used to really dick you over by not letting you use services like Netflix unless you had a Gold account, but they backed off from that a few years ago.

Glad I checked my Live account today, they had my subscription suspended and wanted me to pay for something I didn't use or know was suspended.  After multiple discussions, got it all resolved, but a pretty big hassle....glad I am unsubscribed now:)

Rocked out on Gears of War 4 for a couple of hours...well after it took a couple of hours to download...tonight.  So far the story is pretty good and the gameplay is fun even though run and cover shooters are not my favorite type of game.  Playing on the big screen TV is pretty epic in its own right.

I'm somewhere near the end of the third chapter now and the story has been really good.  The one criticism I have ATM is I don't know that I'll feel compelled to replay the game to collect achievements. I actually really enjoy on rails story telling games but the lack of decisions obviously limits replayability

Yes she did, thanks for asking.  She's able to hold her own with her friends.  They go in as 2 or 3 man teams and have their headsets on so they can coordinate.  Although, the 'coordination,' is mostly jokes and screams of, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!," when they get killed ;)

OK.  I have one complaint about the Xbox One system that is frankly an annoyance for families.  You cannot set up an account for a child without having an email to link the account too.  Seriously?  Why?  I just want an account for my two oldest kids to save game content.  There are a number of laws that prohibit tracking children's information online, which is a good thing.  But many email accounts require a fee and a credit card number attached to the child's account by the parent to protect the child.  Hey Microsoft why not allow local accounts you jerks!  That is the ultimate protection for kids from online predators.  Stupid decision on Microsoft's part.

The annoyance.  For example my oldest and I were playing Diablo III together, but she has to use a guest account.  The guest account will not save any information from the game once the program is exited.  I'd blame Blizzard, but the problem is on Microsoft's side because of how they demand emails for all accounts even for strictly local use only.  Dumb asses.

That sucks Bison ! I hope it hasn't ruined the gameplay for your kids too much :/

My daughter just recently bought a couple more games for Xbox -plants versus zombies , kings quest and a stranger life . And also she subscribed to a gold account , so online play is now active !!! Got killed by a plant called princess baby ....ugh  ;D very demoralising !!!! Lol .

I just wonder if it's only Microsoft who do this ? Make you set up an email account for kids , or if Sony do the same thing with play station ?

Look at the Family settings for Xbox One and setting up a child account through MS.

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/security/add-family-member-on-xbox-one (http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/security/add-family-member-on-xbox-one)

http://www.windowscentral.com/parents-guide-xbox-one (http://www.windowscentral.com/parents-guide-xbox-one)

https://account.live.com/signup?ru=https%3a%2f%2faccount.microsoft.com%2ffamily%3fevent%3dfamily-created-msa&fcxt=User&lic=1&wa=wsignin1.0

I haven't done the above (my kids just sign in under my account and never do anything online), but it looks like MS at least tries to provide privacy protection for kids.
