Just took a look to see how this game is progressing, and I can firmly say that I am impressed. It really looks like a proper update of SHIII.

That's great news. O0
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Looking forward to this.  I haven't played any sub sim for over a decade and my only sub wargaming has been board games ("The Hunters" and "Uboat Leader").

Sir Slash

Is that SH 3 or 4? Looks like 4 to me.

This is on the top of my want list for 2018!

It looks promising, but I'm not sure about the torpedo firing. There seems to be no way of obtaining a firing solution, so it appears as though you have to get to within 50 feet to ensure a hit. And they need to work on those explosions. But everything else looks good.

Tuna

That does look cool!!.. Agree on the torp firing, you'd think that close the repercussion would damage the sub too!

Neither? I can't recall what engine it's supposed to be using, but something else I think. I half-recall it was originally supposed to be a side-watch ant-farm sort of game, too, and they reaaaaalllly took off on fleshing it out more like SH thanks to fan support.

Those ant-farm views remind me a lot of a cut-away model of the U-47 I built back in the 70's.

The game has Cheese in it - I'm sold.
Seriously though, the immersion in that looks amazing.

Destraex

It does look great. Does it have a facility to do the torpedo calculations ourselves?

This article on the sinking of the Japanese carrier Shokaku may be of interset because it goes into the spread of a six torpedo shot.  This resulted in three or four hits on a very large target.
At the start of the war, american subs used as few torpedoes as possible, because of production bottlenecks, there was a very limited supply.  This, and the technical faults in the US torpedoes, caused a lot of good opportunities to be wasted.
