It's up on Kickstarter!

Launched a mere 4 days ago and already funded well past it's publication total.
You wouldn't believe how many people are funding at the $200+ level, either.

The publication company needs to answer questions about the rumors of an impending lawsuit (not related to Up Front) and whether kickstarter funds would be used to pay any judgements against them.  There's a large discussion about all of this on the geek as well as CSW.

On the BGG marketplace UpFront sells for as much as $235 USD for a single used copy, without any expansions.

Buying into the $200 pledge level for the new edition gets you the base game, plus 5 expansions. Each expansion includes a complete action card deck (168 cards each). So buyers at this level get quite a bit for their $$$ IMO.

I'm still enjoying the 2nd edition copy I bought back in `86, so not feeling inclined to jump on the kickstart bandwagon.

I'm not a huge fan of the kickstarter concept.  There just seems to be too much room for monkey business.

GJK

There was an UP copy of Up Front advertised on CSW Marketplace for $70 the other day so prices are dropping - I assume in anticipation of the new release that may or may not come out.
I haven't followed the lawsuit against Valley Games other than from what I gather, some designer that they hired wasn't paid for labor performed.  What's interesting is on the kickstarter page, it refers to a "Radiant Gaming Company" as the publisher and not Valley Games.  The link to the website lands at a parked hosting page for GoDaddy.  The registrant for that domain is a "Tolbern Sherwood" of Alberta Canada.  I'd personally do some more digging beyond that before I pledged money (is that an instant pay type of pledge or that money is only deducted if and when the project is funded?  Produced?  Not sure how kickstarter works - another thing I'd personally look into first).
FWIW, me and my son very much enjoy Up Front - not sure if I'd spring for a new edition.  I'd rather wait and see it produced and get some feedback on it first.  If any rules were tweaked or adjusted I wouldn't even consider it.

Some of the changes that I've read about include:
- a revised range system
- doing away with most of the game chits

I also recall hearing that the developer is based in Canada

Some remarks today from the developer regarding changes:

"Rules virtually unchanged except for the fact that we are adopting Andrew Maly's V3.0 format.

Weapons are now cards separate from the personalities so that DYO are now virtually limitless.

Relative Range is gone and instead we have Distance markers which are used to calculate Range. Long range now = 5 and close range = 0.

Well... I just pledged $90 to this Kickstarter project. For that I'll be getting the base set plus Britian and the Soviets plus all the bonus level stuff.
Never had or played the original and have never pledged to a KS project before.... Should be interesting when it finally shows up.

GJK

I'm really on the fence about supporting the KS project - only because I have the original game plus Banzai already.  I used a heavy lamination on my personality cards and my counters have carefully rounded corners using the Oregon corner rounding tool.  I spend a *lot* of time making this into a very nice playing set (action deck is in card sleeves as well).  I'm not sure that I want to go through all of that for the same game that has different graphics (essentially).  BUT - the game is THAT GOOD.  It is unlike any other tabletop wargame with the FOW aspect.  You literally don't know what is on the other side of the hill or beyond the buildings that are in front of you.  You can be getting your ASSSSSSSSSS handed to you and then with some good draws and card play, your opponents lead group is stuck in marsh and you're on a hill with a fixed MG34 looking down upon them.  I do like that Relative Range is changed to Distance Markers; RR now is bass-ackwards and that was confusing at first.  Oh hell, I'll probably KS'er the thing damnit!

I also own a great copy of the original game plus complete Banzai expansion (minus box) and the North Africa expansion.
I put all of the cards in individual protective card sleeves. I like the lamination approach. Definitely seals the deal. Maybe I'll eventually have all of my cards laminated...someday.
For now, I'm going to wait to read feedback about the new re-print.

Well what convinced me to get onto the KS bandwagon was all of the stretch rewards that have been reached.  Being new to KS, I didn't know what these were.  When I first looked at the project, I only saw that I could spend $40 or so and get the US, Germans and one other nationalty plus some cloth patch thingie.  Big whoop, I have the original game so I'll pass.  Now that I investigated it more, I see that since it has reached a certain level of funding, all those that pledged receive all of these extra "stretch rewards".

See this thread for a list of all the stretch rewards and where it's at now (the red font items are in line next, current funding of the project is $227,273)

Put me in the latter.

Sadly, stuck in that "no money" limbo where you just started a new job but the money's not coming in yet
