Although in the day and age of drones I wonder if these may be viable again.

You have a surface group that can lob cruise missles a pretty good distance but typically are limited by using sat imaging / gps for targeting.

You have a sub sitting off the coast that launches a stealth drone with a laser designator and you can pretty much hit any location of a target you wish with minimal human risk.

Again I'm some dumb civvie so what do I know
