On Easter Monday, April 9, 1917 the Canadian Corps assaulted German-held Vimy Ridge. By April 12 Vimy Ridge was in Canadian hands.

Pierre Berton's book on the battle is well worth reading.

Good post!
My Great Uncle Harold fought in that battle. He uesd to tell us stories of being in France, but nothing of the fighting.
About 40 years ago, 2 years before he died, he gave me these two .303 Lee Enfield shell casings he'd brought back with him.
They have an honoured spot on my book case.

Yeah - I've noticed lots of good TV and news stories on Vimy - good for usw and our kids to learn about !
