Tabletop AARs / Re: Black Flag Fleet 1880

Quote from: MengJiao on Today at 06:05:11 PMThe Black Flag Army was the Chinese bandit force that triggered the war in Indochina between France and China in
1884.  They were operating as early as 1865.  What if the Black Flag Army had acquired German ships sooner than the rest of China and attacked the French Fleet in 1880 with the usual American mercenary cadres on the ships?

Frightening but vaguely possible.  After all, Thetis ended up as a hulk in New Caledonia.

So that didn't go well for the Black Flag Fleet.  About ten minutes into the action at ranges around 1500 yds,
One Black Flag ship blew up and the other two disengaged (they are faster than the French by 2-3 knots).
The problem is the French 10.8-inch gun -- very good.  I was wondering how this game would handle that.  It is probably slightly underrated since no French breechloaders in service blew up in this period unlike many other naval guns of the time, plus, of course, it was a reliable (for the time), accurate and powerful gun with a good explosive shell.  The game seems to show it as quite plausibly very lethal against the average ironclad of the time.

I wish they released the manual in advance, e.g. about now.

Hit the ground running you know?

They did quite some time ago...all 782 pages of it.

Oof.  Directed by Andy Serkis?  What a bait and switch.

"Hunt for Gollum" being directed by and starring Gollum is just weird as hell.  This doesn't sound like it'll be good, but I hope to be disproven.  Serkis' track record is pretty mediocre, so we'll see.

Company of Heroes 3 is 50% off and free to try until may 13th for those who may want a look. I really enjoy it still. There are some features lole tank riding snd towing i'd really miss if I went back to the old ones.

I put this here as a new topic because I lnow coh3 is struggling for players and relic had a poor initial release I think it was over a year ago now with layoffs and such. Additionally men of war II is about to release which would be it's main competition.

QuoteWarner Bros. has made it official: It will be returning to Middle-earth.

On Warner Bros. Discovery's first-quarter earnings conference call on Thursday, CEO David Zaslav said that the company is "now in the early stages of script development" for new Lord of the Rings movies, which he says they "anticipate releasing in 2026" and will "explore storylines yet to be told."

The first film, from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, will be called Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum (working title), with Andy Serkis set to star and direct the feature, Zaslav says that director Peter Jackson and his longtime writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens "will be involved every step of the way." Boyens and Walsh will write the screenplay. The deal covers two films in the franchise.
