The key to surviving this site is to not say something which ends up as someone's tag line - Steelgrave

I've seen this webpage before but don't know too much about the program.  My concern (if I were doing a map for print or professionally) would be that in looking at every example, the terrain is "tiled", much like most computer wargames, meaning that it's the same mountain or forest or whatever image repeated over and over again.  That makes it look - well - computer generated.  The program would be fine for a quick map creation for an RPG or a little wargame playtest kit or something but I wouldn't spend the money to print a map that it created.  Of course, I may be wrong in that you can draw custom terrain and not have to rely on their stock terrain that is tiled.

Another very similar program is Jo Bader's "Hexdraw" (http://www.hexdraw.com/) which I know for certain that you can create your own custom library of terrain that then is NOT simply tiled over and over again.

My personal preference however is good ole' Photoshop, but yes, you have the learning curve that goes along with that.

I used the free version but only for a very short period of time. The outcomes didn't grab me and I didnt want to pay for the full version.  I did get Campaign Cartographer 3 for cheap and really like that program for maps.  I just don't know if you can do hexes, it thats is what you are after.

It works really well within its limits, even the free version.  It is great for role playing.  You can quickly create a bunch of
identical 8x11 hex maps of an area in colour and looking nice.  In days gone by I used it to quickly make "blow up" maps
from AH Blitzkrieg or SPI Strategy I maps to play out battles on a smaller scale than those games.  My daughter likes to
write fantasy and I made some maps for her imaginary landscapes to get travel time distances etc.  A fun tool and free.
