My guess is that the darker the skin tone, the less highlight/shadow features there are to create a unique 'topographic map' or whatever it is that the algorithms do.

I think Stagger's got it. Which means you pasty-white Norwegian types are seriously screwed.

That being said, as the tech improves this will most likely be less of an issue.
