Title: Check out the latest build of Star Citizen
Post by: Jarhead0331 on January 17, 2016, 12:00:23 AM
...its starting to get good. I even fed it another $20 by upgrading my starter ship to something a lot sexier.

Anyway, I have a feeling this game is going to be really mouth watering. I think its really going to be awesome...someday. I made some quick videos of me walking around one of the space stations and a quick circuit/fly-by in my ship. I'll make some of space combat and FPS combat as soon as I can.

In the first video, I show off the space deck and the system for requesting your ship. In the second video, I go for a little spacewalk and first check out a sweet frigate that somebody paid a crap load of real money for to get in game at this point. Thing is sweet. Eventually, I meander over to my own Avenger and take a quick hop around the station. Yes, I forgot to close the back ramp. Eventually, I land, close the ramp and then take a nap in my bunk.

As you can see, the graphics are outstanding and performance is much more polished. It all runs very smooth on my system. Enjoy.

Wow, those graphics are unbelievable, and the engine seems solid too.  What else can you do on the station currently?  How much actual game is there at the moment?

Yes, I forgot to close the back ramp.

Hehe, I was going to point this out.  It's impressive in a way that this is even a thing.

I'm not sure how much more you can do at the space dock at the moment, but there are other regions you can travel to where there is combat, both ship-based and EVA. I haven't tried any of that yet, but when I do, I will record it for sure.

Excellent, I'm looking forward to seeing those mate!

Incidentally, I hope that computer voice is a placeholder, or that you can change it.  Computer voices should be female, it's just the law!

I think the voices are different for each ship. If I'm not mistaken, the voice I had on my Aurora LN was a female.

Pretty impressive....not sure my old rig could handle all the beauty....

JH, are you using a Track IR to look around or keys? Joystick?

I'm pretty sure it is trackir capable at this point, but I was not using it in those vids. I was using the freelook key with the mouse to slew. I tried configuring my POV, but for some reason, It wasn't working. I need to play with it a little more, the problem is probably me.

So apparently, Trackir support was disabled with the release of v2.0...word is, it will be implemented, but it is not currently a priority in development.

Here is a video I made this morning with some voice commentary. Tell me what you think. Still no combat, but I do try out the quantum travel system and land at a different platform in a new sector of space.

Excellent video, thanks for that Jarhead.  I really am bowled over by the graphics, they're absolutely spectacular.  I guess that's where the money's going; all those art assets must be costing a fortune.  I noticed some nice little touches too, like the sign in the station airlock advising what to do in the event of gravity failure.

How does landing work?  I see there's a landing mode which looks like it illuminates landing locations in your HUD.  Does it automate landing too, when you're positioned over a suitable pad?  Looking forward to seeing you shoot something in the next video. :)

Oh and well done for remembering to close the ramp this time!

LOL! I usually try to avoid making the same stupid mistakes twice!

Yes, there is a landing mode that illuminates the open landing spots. It is not automated though. There is an automated landing mode, but I have been unable to perceived any real difference. Perhaps this is something that will get a little more fleshed out further on in development.

The graphics are really impressive, and yes, there are so many nice details and touches. Its crazy to think this is still relatively early alpha build! Thinking about all they can conceivably accomplish is very exciting. The videos really don't do it justice either. Its obviously much sharper in-game.

I'll try to have some combat vids out this week. I have to work tomorrow even though our office is closed for MLK day, but I'm sure I can squeeze some flight time in!

I like your comment about the cost of ships. Frankly for a game that's had over $100 million dollars in funding already, some of them seem frankly ridiculous.

I am definitely keeping my options open with this one. Watching with mucho interest.

I found a flight tutorial and am pleasantly surprised to see some real depth with respect to systems and control options. Energy, shield, and weapons management is all there and there are some cool features with flight control. The Newtonian physics  in combat and fast space flight feel much more authentic and less "arcadey" than I was expecting. Of course, you can turn off your flight assistant and take advantage of the vacuum. You can also turn off a G-limiter that will permit you to pull off some high G maneuvers, at the risk of causing physical harm (to you as the pilot and the ship, it seems). There is a self-destruct sequence and ejection option too.

I'll make a video of the tutorial so you guys can check it out. The script is a little buggy, but I was able to complete the tutorial with some minimal trial and error.

Here's the latest video showing off part of the Basic Flight Training Tutorial mission. It will give you a good taste of flight systems and combat. Unfortunately, the tutorial is not without problems. It does have some bugs causing issues with triggers, but nothing too severe.

There are a bunch of things that need tweaking, but overall, the more I play, the more I like, and the more excited I get to see the game progress. Its going to be awesome.

"I was just saying how easy manual landing is" - LOL!  Classic! :2funny:

Great video Jarhead, thanks.  I especially enjoyed the expert strafing around the Spire!  How did it feel to be called "kid" all the time? :D

Combat looks like it's going to be fun.  Nothing particularly different from other space sims yet, but what's there looks solid.  The weapons seem to carry weight and have decent sound effects, and there was no slowdown at all that I noticed when you were shooting those poor little drones to death.  It's a pity your only missile launch was point-blank; do the missiles leave satisfying vapour trails at longer range?

Some more general questions: since the game is called Star Citizen, is it planned for there to be more to it than just combat?  Will it be viable to play through the game as a trader, diplomat, courier or whatever too?

By the way, you should do videos more often (unless I'm missing them) as you seem to have a knack for it; you provide precisely the level of commentary that I prefer.

Thanks a lot, Huw! I've been meaning to start video making for a very long time. Now that I have some good tools, I plan on rolling them out quite frequently. Any special requests?  O0

The missile trails are really nice in SC. I'll post some more combat vids when I get a chance that will show a lot more combat. All of the combat effects are top notch.

I'm pretty sure that SC, when it's finally finished, will be an entire gaming universe. It definitely won't be all about combat. One of the online areas is sort of like a market hub. I haven't really explored it, but I did see a gun shop and I of course went inside to browse. It really sounds like there will be something for everyone. A single player campaign reminiscent of wing commander, a mmporpg with space and fps exploration and combat activities, PvE elements with random encounters, etc.

Yes - thanks for doing the videos. There's something about doing videos for other to see(especially with commentary) that "bares the soul"....shows you playing, warts and all. So good job.  O0

I'm not seeing any compelling reason to get this currently - so I (you'll be rather pleased to know) am holding off on this.

Hi Jarhead,

Thanks for the vids ..  :)

Been out of the SC loop for a while, .. and just finished downloading 2.1 this morning, .. and was exploring the Space Station.

.. found my Mustang .. but, couldn't figure how to get my other Hardpoints loaded. My ship is in it's basic config, without extra weps etc..

Do you have any idea how to config your ship in the Universe? .. as you can in the Arena.

Thanks ..  :)

Cheers
Tom

Hey Thomasew. I believe you still have to configure your load out from the holo table in your hangar,  but there are reports of configurations not sticking once you load into the universe in 2.1. I'll try this out and see what I can find.

Hey Jarhead,

I did try that, .. without success, .. Ship in 'Universe' still in basic config.  ???

Really need to spend more time with it, .. but, so many other sims/games require my attention, .. it's difficult to focus on just one thing.  ::)

Still haven't taken off with 'Elite' yet, .. and bought that over a year ago ..  :-[ .. upgraded recently to 'Horizons', .. but obviously, don't have a Ship big enough to carry a landing contraption ..  :-[ , .. making the 'Horizons' purchase a tad superfluous ..  :-\

Thanks for investigating SC ..  O0

I just went on my first real mission available in the current build. Lots of fun! So there are a bunch of comm arrays located throughout this area of space and pirates and vandals keep shutting them down. You can accept jobs to go and reactivate them. So I flew to one of them and arrived just in time to join in a battle between pirates and local security forces, once we cleared the pirates, the security forces advised they would provide cover while I rebooted the array. To do it, I had leave the safety of my ship and EVA down to the array and reactivate the control panel. As I was floating through space another group of pirates arrived. I got to watch them blow up my ship from about 1,000 meters away. The space battle swirling around me looked amazing. I almost forgot my ship had been destroyed. So I accomplished the mission and shrugged...now what. Well, I opened the comm channel and saw a bunch of real players were chatting in local space. I asked for a lift and someone ACTUALLY ARRIVED, opened their bay door and picked me the f*ck up! They took me back to the port and saved my ass.

Now that is what I call an awesome gaming experience. I got into a dog fight, got some kills, floated in damn space doing EVA maneuvers, accomplished the mission and got a free ride back to base! Wow.

I don't think it was him, or if it was that it was caused by weapons fire. The area around the station is an armistice zone and weapons are deactivated. He may have crashed into me though.

Yes. Anderson is involved with Squadron 42.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15178-Roundup-Free-Fly-212-Patch-And-Other-Updates

On the fence about Star Citizen? Why not give it a try and see what we're building! For the next week, we're enable Free Fly access to all accounts... which means that anyone can jump in to Star Citizen Alpha 2.1.2 today! The Free Fly event gives everyone access to three unique parts of the Star Citizen experience:

Star Citizen Alpha 2.1.2 – Also known as Crusader or the "mini-PU," this is the nucleus of the world we're building! Featuring multiple space stations and environments, scripted missions, places to explore and more, Alpha 2.1.2 is your first look at a much larger universe!
Arena Commander – Arena Commander is a 'game within a game' that we've used to develop our flight mechanics and ship combat balance. Take on human opponents or an AI swarm in single seat fighter.
Social Module – Interact with other players while you explore our first landing zone, ArcCorp! The Social Module is intended as a starting point for our world building,

Seems you better get it now if you think of buying it :

At the December livestream, we announced that Squadron 42 and Star Citizen will be split into two separate packages in the near future. To update on this: the split will occur on February 14th. Squadron 42 will be available as either a stand alone game or an optional addon for Star Citizen rather than be included by default. If you want to lock in both games for the lowest possible price, consider pledging before this deadline.

Really though, if you have any interest in the game, save yourself the trouble and aggravation and just pledge now. Pick up a $30 ship package and you'll also get Squadron 42 included. If you're one of those guys that knows you're going to want this, just buy in now. Its going to be awesome.

Depends on Linux support, for me.  I'm pretty sure they've said it's planned, but the wise Linux gamer never buys a game on the promise of a port.

Otherwise, I'm 100% in for this after seeing your videos Jarhead.  O0

Up until recently, it was all one game, just different modes. However, I would imagine that it would be separate characters and ships without continuity. Squadron 42 is a campaign so it's scripted with missions. It has a story line. I would expect there to be limitations on customizations. In any event, Now that it looks like separate packages, I have no idea how it is going to work.

I know this game gets a bad rap around here, but it seems that the complaints are always based on the amount of money raised as compared to the level of progress and infrequency of updates, as opposed to the content that is actually in the present build. It's as if, people have gown so turned off by the business aspect of the game that they are unable to actually look objectively at what has been released in game at present.

Anyway, I finally got access to version 2.6 of the alpha in the private test universe (it has not been released publicly yet) and I continue to be amazed by what the team has accomplished. Yes, they have such a long way to go, but it is only because of the limitless nature of their dream. What is there is unlike anything in gaming ever. The ships are marvels of digital engineering. They are beautiful to look at, wonderous to fly in and inspiring to interact with. I picked up my first multi-crewed ship and it's just crazy how you can interact with other people in the universe and team up to crew a ship. The details are simply second to none. From the way parts and components on ships animate, to facial expressions, to the way weapons sway when hanging from slings, the game really comes to life, and everything just looks so damn badass. What other game permits a player to start in a space station, EVA out to a ship, fly in space combat against other ships, EVA out to an objective and engage in FPS combat, before going back to your ship and returning home?

It is always painful waiting for the next build, but each one is more revolutionary than the next. I wish I could convince some of you guys to make just a modest investment in the game to get a starter ship so we could explore this amazing and expanding world together.

I always appreciate your posts on this game because I am fully expecting to pick it up.

However, my personal "hold off" attitude is down to "will this ever be finished" rather than how much the guy raised or actually how much it costs.

Basically I'm waiting on release to see what the game actually is, what price it's at and what "complete" means in terms of this game. I don't know how complete the game is or even what functionality is there besides what you post here because I'm not particularly interested in jumping in until there's an "end" to development - whatever that end may look like.

I couldn't give a rats arse how much the guy made for development. If people want to pay then they'll pay. I know those aren't particularly insightful words - but it is what it is.

Jarhead I have been invested in this game for some time now, in fact since Oct 27, 2012. I own 5 or so ships including a Connie and a Vanguard with lifetime insurance.
I agree with your assessment. They are doing amazing things, but slowly. I have not downloaded a build in some time. I will perhaps, once star marine goes live into the regular game client to download.

Good to know you're invested in SC too, Destraex.

My investment in SC was fairly modest until yesterday afternoon.

Years ago, I started with an Aurora class. From there, I upgraded into an Avenger Stalker for bounty hunting and long range interdiction. Then, on a special sale, I bought a military grade Super Hornet. However, yesterday, I picked up a 325a AND a Constellation Andrameda. I struggled over whether to go with the andromeda or the Aquila. The andromeda comes with a Merlin single seat fighter and the Aquila comes with a Land Rover for planetary exploration. I figured, since planetary exploration isn't expected to be in game until at least 3.0, I can get more use and value out of the andromeda. I can always outfit it with a rover anyway, or upgrade to the Aquila. That was my reasoning, anyway.

I really love the look of the military ships and so my fleet for that reason is 75% based around them while friends have larger civilian vessels. But you will get to play them in the military campaign and the ones you can get with lifetime insurance were mostly slightly less powerful civilian versions of the military craft. The kind of ships you would find in planetary militia or security fleets. Still more powerful than anything else on the free market I would say. But you would still have to stay away from the proper military gear that the navy has.

The military campaign is mostly what I am looking forward to playing. I hope it brings back the wing commander feel. The atmosphere. Something modern movies and games have real trouble doing.

i was also very excited for Squadron 42, but in all honesty, the persistent universe is looking like such an immersive and engrossing sandbox with so much to do already, both PvE and PvP, that I have barely even thought about Squadron 42 lately. That, and CIG has not really released a lot of info. regarding the status of progress on SQ42 and it is already so far behind schedule...I do have a feeling though that once it does finally come out, it will be an amazing gaming experience. Something tells me that the large military capital vessels will be breathtaking.

2.6.0 finally went live this evening. Totally redesigned front end, overhaul on some of the ship handling characteristics, new details and looks for some of the ships and objects and, of course, the introduction of Star Marine.

I love the way ships handle. It's like a more advanced version of WWII in space. The dogfights are really intense. I've been focusing on getting ships for awhile, but I'm going to start looking at gear and weapons mods now.

Star Marine is a lot of fun, but it is still fairly buggy and noticeably has a long way to go. Still, it is totally playable and once it gets fleshed out it's going to be amazing. In this game, transition from ship or vehicle to on foot or Eva will be seemless. It's already exceptional.

I'm afraid version 3.0 is still pretty far off, but I am enjoying what is there now. The persistence universe with pve and pvp play is there, as is arena commander where you can set up free flight, single player player races and wave based combat, or engage in the same with and against other players. Also, the hangers are pretty cool too, where you can just load up and modify your ships and then interact with them.

Cloud Imperium announces the release of Star Citizen Alpha 2.6 for all backers of the upcoming online space game :

I am happy to announce we have just released Alpha 2.6 of Star Citizen to all backers!

With Alpha 2.6 you can now enjoy: Star Marine, featuring a host of new FPS features; big improvements to Arena Commander; further improvements to characters and their animations; new locations and missions to try; 47 flyable ships, including 8 new ships (Herald, Hoplite, Caterpillar, 85X, Wildfire, Renegade, Valiant and Comet)!

I hope you will spend many hours enjoying all the content we've put into this build and meeting new friends and enemies in our expanding universe! To find out more about what it took on the development side to get the patch ready for release make sure to check out the retrospective included in the final Alpha 2.6 schedule report.

There is one other big announcement we would like to make with the release of 2.6. We are now basing Star Citizen and our custom technology development on Amazon's Lumberyard Engine. Since the beginning of the project, we've had to make a huge number of changes to the CryENGINE code and tech to enable us to deliver Star Citizen. While the original CryENGINE had great strengths in many areas like rendering and cinematics the needs of our game were well beyond what came 'out of the box'. So we have, over time, changed significant parts of the engine for our technology, such that only a baseline of the original engine truly remains. In the future we will continue to make significant changes to AI, Animation and Network code and systems.

When Amazon announced Lumberyard back in February 2016, we were immediately interested. While based on the same baseline technology as Star Citizen, Lumberyard is specifically designed for online games, utilizing the power of Amazon's AWS Cloud Services and their Twitch streaming platform. Amazon's focus aligns perfectly to ours as we've been making significant engineering investments into next generation online networking and cloud based servers. Making the transition to Lumberyard and AWS has been very easy and has not delayed any of our work, as broadly, the technology switch was a 'like-for-like' change, which is now complete.

As an added benefit Amazon AWS data centers are spread around the world from North America to South America, Europe to China to Asia Pacific, which will allow us to better support the many backers across the globe as we scale up Star Citizen.

Finally, Amazon has made Lumberyard freely available for anyone building their own game. That means that technically-inclined members of the community can have a better view 'under the hood' of our game than ever before. It's also a great path for anyone interested in game development professionally; I fully anticipate that in the coming year we will be hiring programmers who have taught themselves using Amazon's Lumberyard resources!

As we move forwards, we are confident you will see great benefits from our partnership. Amazon will bring new features to Lumberyard to assist in creating online persistent games, adding great support for their products like Twitch (which we use extensively) and of course investing heavily in engine research and development for years to come. We could not find a more stable and reliable engine partner than Amazon, so with this partnership we are sure we have secured the future development and continuing technical innovation for Star Citizen.

With that I would like encourage everyone to download and play Alpha 2.6. It is a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing you in the 'verse!

JH I really appreciated that video and it does look awesome. Like I said, I'm probably going to jump in one day (I've been thinking more about it the last month or so).

But whilst the video was informative - it did leave me thinking "DCS in Space". By that I mean, a lot (ALOT) going on in development (look at the hangers, the ships, the functionality) but nothing actually really gelling it all together. A bit like DCS and it's plethora of modules but nothing really pulling everything into that world they're talking about.

For example your little fighter that's deployable from the RSI Constellation Andromeda - flyable you say in another part of the game but not deployable from the ship yet. And yet....so many other ships about. I know...alpha.

That left me thinking - do I really want another sim - whether it looks great or not...whether it plans a lot or not - that is going to be way off on providing much in the way of a game.

That question is rhetorical and I haven't figured out the answer yet.

I'm still gobsmacked at the price of some of those ships though  :hide:
Title: Re: Check out the latest build of Star Citizen
Post by: Jarhead0331 on December 26, 2016, 03:09:44 PM
You can jump in with a fairly decent and versatile starter ship for something in the $30 range. For the content that is already in-game, I think that is a totally reasonable entry point price. You know you are going to get this eventually, JD, so you might as well give it a shot now!  >:D

If you end up enjoying it, and you find yourself wanting a different or better ship without having to pay full price for a new craft, CIG offers upgrade packages where you can upgrade to a new ship for a lower price than just buying the new ship outright.

I know what you mean about the game feeling like an empty sandbox without much content holding it together or driving the players forward.  That is partially true, but there is a persistent universe in-game presently, I just have not showcased it yet. In the persistent world, there are missions that you can go on, either solo or with other players, that will take you from one location to another in order to accomplish various objectives for cash. You can then buy new armor, weapons, ship mods, etc. with the money you earn. Yes, there presently is no trading, mining, or transportation type missions, etc. in the game yet, but these are going to be added over the next couple of builds. They will get there.

In the meantime, I really do enjoy flying around and sightseeing in the world which presently has "100 Sextillion kilometers" to explore...

No. I think I mentioned that from time to time, the developer runs free to fly specials where they make some of the ships available for all players to try out. During these promotions, you can load the ships up, fly them, etc. They were running a few of these promotions for the holidays.

The blue bubble displays a 3D tactical map during flight.

During the promotions it's as if the free to fly craft are in your inventory. It's a brilliant marketing tactic. They run the promotions pretty frequently, too.

I bought into SC early this year. Kind of played it off and on while dividing my time between it and Elite Dangerous. Never was much of a Sci Fi  gamer until both of these games came out. I'm finding ED much harder to get into than SC though, but I DL an e-guide from Game Pressure and I'm studying that to try and help me understand what the hell I'm supposed to be doing as well as reading the ED Forums and watching YouTube tutorials. I'm having the most trouble in ED just trying to land on the station pad properly for some reason.

I'm finding the ship combat in both games fantastic. Can't really make up my mind if I prefer one over the other. JH, I think you are spot on that the ship combat in SC is akin in style and method like old style dogfighting such as Il-2. Don't know how much others here have spent on SC but my current tally is probably around $250-$300. I started out with the Avenger Stalker and did some upgrades to it, mostly weapons. Then the last time the Aegis Sabre was on sale I traded the Avenger for it. Upgraded weapons again and now I'm packing two CF-227 Panther Repeaters along with two CF-117 Badger Repeaters. My dogfighting practice results in SP Arena doing Vanduul Swarm have really taken off. The new Pirates ships seem to be harder to take down though. The Sabre is well worth what I paid for it as it packs quite a lethal punch and maneuvers great. I plan on playing only a combat role in SC so I didn't really need the Avenger with the cargo space although I do miss the little guy at times. Who knows maybe I'll rebuy it again. Never thought I'd put this much money into a game but for me personally it seems worth it. Told my wife about it and showed her my new Sabre in the R&Y Hangar. I think she thinks I've lost my mind.

If the Avenger is still available in the starter package I would recommend that one to go with as its' a sweet little fighter with that big gatling gun in the nose and the added benefit of cargo space if you need it. great looking too.

I *think* it's JudgeDredd. I say *think* because it wanted 3 different details - in game, in forum and login or something.

Well, I went and looked in game...it shows 2 names on the top right JudgeDredd and JudgeDredd67. I remember when creating an account that it wanted two names in the top right of the registration form - though I can't remember what they were I'm sure one was the in game moniker and one was for forum identity. I don't recall which I selected for what - I know JudgeDredd was taken for one of them but not the other, hence why one of them is JudgeDredd67

Do you need 'real money' after you buy a ship or package.

Most packages come with 3 months insurance (the faq mention that if you lose your ship and don't have insurance you will have to rebuy that ship).  Can you get extra insurance without spending extra cash ?

Is it like in Elite Dangerous where you have to restart with a basic sidewinder if you run out of in game money ?

I honestly have no idea. I literally picked it up the other day, fumbled around a bit, struggled a bit, eventually got in and flew for a while and performed one of the "race" missions - unsuccessfully I should add.

If I can tear myself away from my garage for a bit, I might jump in and try a bit of combat.

Insurance is not a requirement in the alpha build. You do not need to rebuy your ship if it is destroyed. Once the game is released and everything is implemented, you will not need to buy anything with real cash and everything can be purchased with in game currency.

So let the game download overnight (was really slow) and went to play this morning, now doing another update so hopefully will be able checkout at some point today.....but while I wait, a couple of questions.

1)  What exactly is Squadron 42?  Noticed it was a separate cost then my starter package that I received.  My starter package is the Mustang.
2)  Is there any other add-ons that must be purchased to get the complete experience (not meaning ships, but other gameplay modes) ?

Thanks.

1. Squadron 42 is the single player campaign that is going to offer an experience along wing commander lines. It will not be released most likely for at least another 2 years. Squadron 42 used to come with all ship packages, but some time ago CIG split it up and SQ42 became a separate purchase. They still have packages that include it, but I guess the cost is a little higher.

2. No. unless they raise another 100 million and the stretch goals once again expand the scope of the game.

I don't even bother hinting at reducing my purchases since I know I will fail....but I really should since I increasingly i am becoming a game collector versus serious player.
Next year is the year my friend. No more purchases. Read it loud and clear...it's happenin!  :knuppel2:

I'm going to make models and play board games. I've got LOTS to get on with.

I wish you luck...you can be an inspiration to us all if your able to pull it off:)

Or will it be like many New Years resolutions....forgotten two weeks into the new year? Good luck JD....!

The cost is slightly higher - but half the price of buying SQ42 on it's own

It appears my free package that I got included squadron 42 already, at least that is what my account says.  I guess we'll see in a couple years:?

Most likely. SQ42 is very behind schedule and concrete information on the state of it is pretty scarce. If its anything like what they are building in the persistent universe, it will be revolutionary.

That is damn cool...in the words of a very dumb person "A lak it a lot" (Dumb and Dumber circa 1994)

...but did it make you feel like you were playing F16 Fighting Falcon on a 486 with 4MB of RAM?  >:D  I haven't seen stuttering like that on my computer since 1995!!  ;D

Actually, I just ran this on my rig at work and it was far better.

It must just be a optimisation thing or driver thing. My PC at work is not by any stretch of the imagination a gaming rig.

No technical issues on my end either, JD.

Just re-bought the Avenger Stalker to go in the hangar alongside my Sabre. I needed a bounty-hunter ship that can hold prisoners for the future. The latest news is that the Avenger is going to have swappable modules including cargo, etc. This will make it the most versatile ship in the game and a great starter package for anyone getting into SC. They are also talking about maybe bigger weapon hardpoints on the wings as well.

Combat-wise the Avenger is pretty good with the nose gatling gun and swapping the Suckerpunch weapons for either Tarantulas or Badgers on the wings. For pure dogfighting supremacy though the Sabre with (4) Panther Repeaters is one of the most lethal ships in the game hands-down. My kill-rate with it is much better than my skills deserve.

I think it really depends on your play style. I have a Super Hornet, which is the closest thing to military class space supremacy in the game presently. While the sabre is more maneuverable, the Super Hornet definitely wins on the defense with much greater survivability, and with greater brute force.

Yeah I've heard the Hornet is a beast. Never flown it. Maybe I'll give it a try on the next free fly that SC offers. The YouTube vids that show Hornet vs Sabre arena duels seem to make the case that they are pretty evenly matched and usually comes down to the best pilot. I think part of my fondness for the Sabre is the similarity in looks to a conventional jet fighter. Tell me JH are you a fixed weapon adherent or a gimbal mount kind of pilot or do you like to mix a little of both? I prefer fixed mounts especially with my current weapon loadout of Panther Repeaters.

I'm just starting to get into tweaking my payload and weapons. So far, I've been pretty dedicated to fixed mounts, but that may change. The Super Hornet does have that top turret though that gives 360 degrees of coverage.

Development feels like it is speeding up. I've been playing 2.6.1 for about a week now and it should be released to the public servers in the next day or so.

Check-out this video and start watching at about 6:30. They walk you through the development of the F7 Hornet. It shows a glimpse into the amazing attention to detail they are pouring into every aspect of this game. Simply stunning stuff...

Definite BSG Viper vibe to the F7. I approve.  O0

Looks pretty spectacular.
