Title: Fairytale of Friday
Post by: JudgeDredd on December 01, 2017, 06:09:12 AM
As it's Christmas

I'll be working on the DCS Harrier. Managed to take off last night and land - though the landing couldn't be classed as successful.

I think I will also play some Project Cars 2 and perhaps take my F1 career a bit further in F1 2017.

If I have time and don't want to watch the telly, some Madden NFL 18 on the PS4 is a callin

Have a great weekend peeps  :smitten:

I've got two Oriental Empires campaigns going on (one advanced and one new). I am also playing my second game of Dawn of Andromeda which is so much better than the first game they produced. I am having fun with it. I have i finish one of these, i'll continue my first campaign in Civilization 6. I also have my usual pbem (Field of Glory and Armada 2526).

Happy gaming guys.  :dreamer:

JTS x2 (Jena)

Jena KS

Three BETA-test games

Here I Stand -- Hard to imagine my love for this game being greater.  it's one of those I can see myself playing constantly "in the background" of other games.

Battle of Britain if my oversized map shows up.  Not playing without it...just not...although I really am liking the components -- planes included.

Tedeschi Trucks concert tonight so psyched for that! Moving my gaming computer back down cellar this weekend since my son is coming home from his co op in NYC. Rudder pedals are still down there, so maybe I'll be hitting the virtual sky soon.

Been enjoying Project Zomboid, which I snagged during the sale. Also may continue my Strategic Command game.

Trapped at Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos for my little one's birthday until tomorrow...pray for me.

When I get home I will continue being in love with Pike and Shot Campaigns and try to salvage my Stainless Steel Polish campaign.

Let's see...

1.) Having caught up on DC:Blitz I'm waiting for Barthheart to return Turn 11 back.

2.) Fire in the Grogs 2 is burning along, with the 4th coup this weekend to play. Currently the commies are winning, although not enough to put the game away during this coup. AAR eps are already in production; but I'm not sure if I'll get start posting that series this weekend yet.

3.) One of those players, Dave Markman (iirc, who should be a Groghead member if he isn't yet), scored a default win off me in Twilight Struggle when I forgot for a month that we were playing it. To be fair, he was also ahead by 6 points when my time ran out. We've already started a new game, and I'm determined this time not to fall behind (in time if not on scoring).

4.) My Red Thunder game with Yskonyn is currently waiting for my next turn. I've been waiting until I caught up with DC:Blitz, but that's done now so...!

5.) I may start working on the AAR for a full game of Predynastic Egypt that I've already got the footage for.

6.) Back during the Thanksgiving sale, I picked up a reboot (by the original dev) of an old Amiga game (!!), now called Genesia Legacy: Ultimate Domain. It's a surprisingly in-depth turn-based town-survival sim, with rules that are meant to be discovered (in a somewhat roguelike way) as you play the game -- and your village dies. I messed around a couple of hours with it earlier this week, and rather like it.

7.) Plus several other possibilities to fill in niches of time, including possibly some Age of Empires 2 HD mping.

So, I am probably going to play some Stellaris, maybe Endless Space, Pike and Shot, who knows.

Just glad to be off this weekend.

Trying to fix the New York Islanders in my Franchise Hockey Manager campaign (holy bad contracts, Batman!). Took a bit of a break from Shadow of War, but I feel the need to dive back in to that as well. And I want to get Brief History of the World and Lorenzo il Magnifico on the table to try them out and see what I think.

Played some CMANO on my twitch stream tonight.

Flying my work desk tomorrow morning but when I get home I'm planning on spending some time in the Majestic Dash 8 Q400 for Prepar3d v4 that I picked up on sale a few days ago.

My Nieces birthday on Sunday so not sure I'll get much gaming in then. Maybe some FOG 2 or TOAW IV. Think my family would kill me if I brought my Surface Pro to game on? If I have the time, maybe another flight in the Dash 8 or another plane.

I also have a game going as the Duke of Aquitaine in Crusader Kings 2, so thats always a possibility as well.

Gotta love the Pogues!  Excellent choice, JudgeDredd.  :bd:

I'm off the next three days, but I'll also be gone until Sunday.  When I return, I'm planning to dive back into Rome II Total War; I chose the Black Sea Colonies culture pack as my free DLC, so I feel compelled to try one of those factions.  Am also feeling the pull of Imperium Galactica II for some reason, so perhaps that as well (time allowing).

Is Pontus one of those factions or were they an original faction?

Pontus was in the original game. I know. I lost my ass as them.  :'(

Technically, neither.  Pontus was added as a playable faction afterwards in one of the "Free-LC" updates.

They're still one of my favorites, although as Sir Slash knows, they're not exactly the easiest faction to play as.  :P  They're probably not Armenia-level hard, but they're a decent challenge.

I think it's a great game. The only "problem" is that you don't have a big variety with the different factions. You've got to have an interest in China. The main differences is between herders and farmers. Otherwise, most factions look very similar. The positive aspect is that they will be working on the game for a long time with at least a DLC on Tibet it seems. Visually, the game is fantastic as you can zoom in so close. I wished it had more info on the internal mechanics, especially the trade system as it is really complex. I recommend it.

6 nights in Nashville. Been through Nashville several times. Always meant to stay...

It's amazing thinking that Trucks played shows with the Allman Bros at the age of 13. He has only gotten better with age. Bonamassa is also a fine guitarist albeit a bit more clean than Trucks. Both started young. I love this version of Claptons The Core he did with Shannon Curfman. He and Trucks go way back. If you like Guitar based songs this is a must.

^post impressions!

For the Empire Divided DLC -- I've run into a couple of bugs so far: sent my cav archers looping around my outnumbered enemy for example to dismount and take the city center of... um, Bithnyia et Pontus I think. (The town, not the province which is actually capital'd by Nicomedia.) This should have ended the battle but it didn't. When some archers ran out of ammo, I sent them to hold the center for kicks, and ordered my mobile archers to mount up again, whereupon they got totally frozen and never moved or did anything else again. Fortunately, as my spears started to rout (with me winning the battle handily up to that point!) my archers all got more ammo... somehow... is that a thing? I mean, is that something in the game engine now? I sure don't recall it before!  This allowed me to shower the enemy from a couple of directions before my spears totally failed, and that was the end. (Except for my archers which got more ammo but which COULDN'T shoot anymore for no clear reason other than the ammo was phantom ghost arrows of hope and fairy dust.)

It was so goofy, though, that I've autobattled with crushing superiority since then, just to be safe.

Not nearly as goofy as what happened at Sinope, as I'm rolling west along the southern coast of the Black Sea, heading for Nicomedia to pick up my faction's main goal path. I zip up my three armies, not hideously huge but sufficient, and set one to attack the city... but no options come up to siege or attack or retreat or whatever. Weird. I still keep my other two armies close and prepare them to raid the countryside. (Oh, and raiding is supposed to reduce siege holdouts by 2 turns per raiding party, but that mechanic seems broken.) End turn, and during the AI doomscroll, this ship comes swanning in from the north. It's a Goth admiral (or, y'know, the equivalent thereof). This little southern proto-viking saunters up with a splinter boat of maybe 20 guys, and somehow TAKES OVER THE FIGHT! -- WITH MY GUYS ACTING AS SUPPORT! I was so confused I thought, wait, is he helping me?? I started this fight! So I kept at it, and blam naturally we take the city in the assault. But now it belongs to the Goths. Who hate my guts.

Now I have the fun choice of goading the Goths to declare war on me (and thus on my Sassinid overlords whom I can't get out from under yet), and so having ships running down onto my coastal towns to do raids perhaps; or else turning around early to fight Palmyra (whom as a tertiary goal I'd rather be friends with but who invaded the Sassies on turn 1.) Or I can declare war on my Sassylords early and get curbstomped. I may take my chance with the Goths...

(Just to reiterate from earlier, I'm playing the Armenians.)
