Last post by Silent Disapproval Robot - January 30, 2024, 06:15:09 PMSeriously though. If you plan to paint it, first thing is wash all the sprues in lukewarm water with some detergent and scrub them down with a toothbrush. This will remove any residual floc used during the casting process.
Get a file or emory board and some good clippers. Only snip out the pieces you plan on building. File off any excess bits after clipping. Rinsing with water and filing with emory can help smooth out rough patches.
Do a pre-fit test before gluing. If anything is warped or misaligned, you can try the following.
Heat the piece in hot water and try to reshape it.
Use a small drill to enlarge any slots where the piece doesn't fit properly.
If you plan to paint, use a putty filler to fill in any gaps and seam lines then sand it smooth.
Use an x-acto knife to gently scrape away mold lines.
Pre-paint interior pieces before assembling and gluing. Some can be a bitch to get to later.
Have fun with it and don't beat yourself up if it doesn't come out perfect.
Expect to lose pieces into an alternate dimension while building. It's amazing how thoroughly they disappear once dropped.
Expect to glue yourself to a piece and leave sticky bits/fingerprints on some surfaces.

Other Games Around the Table / Prime Minister
Last post by Silent Disapproval Robot - January 30, 2024, 04:35:35 PMI picked up a copy of Prime Minister on a whim (and in total contravention of my "no more boardgames" rule) a few weeks ago.
1-4 players take on the role of Victorian era British politicians and vie to become the pre-eminent leader of the time.
It's an interesting system because two players play as members of the Liberal party while 2 others play as Conservatives. They must work together to advance their party's fortunes but only one player can win so there's lots of opportunity for double dealing, backstabbing, dropping poison pills, and the like.
TBH, I'm terrible at these types of games as I'm nowhere near subtle enough to succeed but I do enjoy the shenanigans.
We tried it out last week and enjoyed it even though the scoring system is a bit obtuse and led to a few screw ups of the rules by me.
Gonna give it another go this weekend and see just how far back in last place I can be this time.

I have Salerno '43 from GMT and I see they are working on the next game for Italy, think it will be called Gustav '43 or something similar. Right now on my table in the man cave I have Crossing the Line from Vuca Simulations and downstairs on the breakfast nook table I'm rounding the counters for Silent War 2.0 to play as well. Girlfriend is away starting her new job so figure why not use all the table space.

I just broke out Avalanche Press's Avalanche from 1994. I got it when it first came out, never played it, and just recently acquired another copy. It's unpunched, so it'll be a while before I actually set it up and start playing it. This past summer I got a bee in my bonnet about Sicily and the Italian campaign, and I've been doing a lot of reading, and selecting/playing games about both. Good fun!
