Yeah looks good. But....not sure I could take anything seriously where my character was a duck ... be better if it was human..

A duck protagonist? What will they think of next?
A superhero movie about a talking Duck from outer space that is directed by George Lucas?  :))

It's too bad they skipped over the original mutant themed content and went straight to the goofy furries stuff found in the later release.  :-\

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden will be released on December 4 (http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/08/21/mutant-year-zero-road-to-eden-release-date-announced-a-gamescom-2018). Christmas will come a bit early for me!

"A duck with an attitude problem and a boar with anger issues; these aren't your typical heroes. Get to know Dux, Bormin, Selma, and many other characters each with their own unique personality and deranged perspective on the world and their situation."

I'm delighted to wait on Mike to play this and give his impressions.

But if you are waiting for a very good post-apocalypse RPG - buy Underrail.  It is the best update of Fallout 1 & 2 I've ever seen.

The older you get, the more your perception of time accelerates.  ;)

Started watching a let's play video this morning. Looks strong. Everyone compares to Xcom however I see the gameplay more like the old Jagged Alliance games.

I've heard it's extremely linear. True?

It's too early for me to say how linear it is. It's not an issue for me since I've played the RPG this is based on. My first impressions are good. The post-apocalyptic feel and artwork are outstanding so far. This review (https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/7xyekg/mutant-year-zero-road-to-eden-is-a-post-apocalyptic-game-done-right) seems spot on.

Their quote on it being open world:

Mutant Year Zero is a semi-open world. XCOM randomly generated its encounter maps, but Mutant Year Zero's team handcrafted theirs. This makes it possible for players to see enemies before they engage them in combat and use silenced weapons to pick off the stragglers. A clever player can make an encounter easier by taking out enemies on the fringes before engaging. There's also a greater emphasis on pre-combat positioning.

Bought it yesterday. I love the humorous banter between the Duck and the Boar. The post-apocalyptic setting is serious stuff but offset with black humor. So it's a dramedy. Unlike XCOM there is no base building but you do go to your base to sell stuff you've collected out in the world and equip yourself better. You level up faster by killing more enemies so you have to balance stealth with aggressiveness as the enemy will kill you pretty quickly. Taking out solo outlying enemies first and then using stealthy flanking moves on the rest is a lot of fun. In one mission I had the Duck on a roof while the Boar was on the ground and drawing out enemies in the open so the Duck could shoot them. The Duck initially comes with a crossbow for silent kills. First chance I get I'm going to get him a sniper rifle. I also killed an enemy on a building ruin roof by throwing a grenade up there and blowing the roof down.

Tactically and strategically I think it's very good and the missions really can be tense at times. The mission settings are very well done too. I think later in the game you gain another character for I believe a max of three. Seems like in all of the missions you will be outnumbered. You can have pretty much unlimited saves so that helps if one of your guys gets killed unless you play on Iron mode. You can also fast travel between locales that you have already discovered and the base which is called "The Ark."

The only complaint some have about the game is that it's too short at between 15 and 20 hours max. I smell DLC coming for this game in the future. I'd call it XCOM lite. So far I think it's a little gem of a game.
