I bought the game about five months ago, and have only clocked 27min according to Steam.

I am not a fan of the 'SGS Way' and this game didn't really change that. But I don't want to dissuade anyone from the game, because it is pretty well put together. If you like SGS games, this is probably a good one. For me, it's just a mechanics thing.

If you aren't sure about SGS games, I recommend trying one of their lower cost games, like SGS Glory Recalled (the WWII invasion of Hong Kong) that you can get for $9.

Think I am going to wait for Ultimate General: American Revolution to bake some more.

How much do you want to delve into the dcs editor?

There's some dynamic based mission templates out there, you can download them on the dcs site.

There's also the liberation campaign that works like a 3rd party app.

The pretense campaign seems pretty good, the dev just announced he's quitting dcs though.

Thanks all.  Gamersgate has SGS games on sale a few times a year, so I'm going to hold off on this as well.

I had it wish listed but removed it earlier in the month when the developer announced their next game despite this one not being fully finished.  The cards and battle system did not really appeal to me either which is mainly why I removed it.   If you like the time period and ageod card type games with those types of battles I'd say can't beat it for $10 bucks, I don't think they ever released the "big" patch yet to add the rest of the gameplay (could be wrong about this).

I am in the same boat. There was supposed to be a fully fleshed out "loyalty" mechanic for the different regions (pretty important for the War of Independence) which was first said to be "coming soon after release" and now appears to have been quietly forgotten. The SGS games are okay but ongoing support is pretty threadbare from what I have seen, sacrificed to pumping out more new games.

Yeah, that is what I have noticed and makes me hesitant for future purchases.  Seems like they have so many different titles in the pipeline, attention is quickly moved to the shiny new thing, wish they would spend more time fully realizing the potential of released games.  Regardless of that, something about the game mechanics just doesn't click with me on all the SGS games and even though I have bought quite a few, have spent very little time with them including this one.  Really do like the subjects they try and cover but slowly learning my lesson that these will never work for me.

We did a run down of the progress I've been working on CS Vietnam and CS Middle East and then dived into the Port Said scenario. The British seem to be still held up along the coast, but the French are rocking it this set of turns! We are advancing into the city from the south, but it is city fighting, so it's a pain. Many reinforcements have arrived, which is exciting as that will open up possibilities for the remainder of the scenario - especially potentially a push south. There was a valuable lesson to be learned about tanks in built up areas in this session.

I don't really have enough spare troops to siege your forts, so at best I could raid you.  I'll kill your stuff if you force me to do it, but it's really not a priority for me at all.  My game will be won or lost based on how fights with Mari go.

If you don't dome your forts, I will just disease and curse anything Mari sends onto your infrastructure to prevent her taking it.  If you can prevent her cracking walls for a few turns after I do that, the low-MR mounts in particular will have horrible afflictions.  Disease takes something like 10 turns to kill usually, but due to the hp decrease, a cursed unit will take lots of afflictions before then.

If you have a crone of Avalon with air, use wailing winds.  It's an extremely obnoxious spell (worse than blood rain) and I will be surprised if Mari can storm a fort with that up unless she just unloads like 30 pillars of fire or puts up wrathful skies and one of those catches your mage (she has the air queens so this is extremely likely to be active).  Might want to gear against that!  She can also cast mass flight to fly over your walls, unless one of you puts up storm.  If you can take 200-300 flying blessed knights of the chalice, then don't bother, but otherwise storm is a good idea.  Almost guaranteed you see fire storm since her bless has FR in it.  So yeah, just make sure you have lots of buffs, including both shock and fire resistance, a means to deal with flying to surround you, a way to see in the dark, and a way to manfight hundreds of sacreds.  Easy, right?

Her win condition for the war is to overrun us with troops and equalize/surpass me in infrastructure.  Mine is to kill her armies before she takes infra, after which my any-fort sacreds, while weaker, will be more numerous and boosted by the throne giving them awe.

Mari's armies are larger than mine + Man's combined right now, and she has multiple tech 8s researched.  I'm a bit ahead of her in tech, but tech differential isn't too impactful when both sides have 8s.
