original reports weren't clear on the cause of the crash - any further updates that indicate whether or not foul play was involved?

The Russians haven't indicated anything nefarious so far. As of last night, NPR was reporting they were looking at three possible causes:


       
  • Mechanical malfunction
  • Human error
  • Weather related
