'Here at NASA we all pee the same color.'  Al Harrison from the movie Hidden Figures.

His Falkenberg's legion stories are among my favorites.  King David's Spaceship and the Tran books are also besties.  Oath of Fealty is one of the best "future business" books ever.  I own most of his work.

He lived a long life with many accolades.  He will be missed.  May God have mercy on his soul.

What a great pity he's gone. A great writer. And Brian Aldiss too a few weeks ago. :( RIP.
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

Foul Temptress! (Mirth replying to Gus) ;)

On a good day, our legislature has the prestige of a drunk urinating on a wall at 4am and getting most of it on his shoe. On a good day  ::) Steelgrave

It's kind of silly to investigate whether or not a Clinton is lying. That's sort of like investigating why the sky is blue. Banzai_Cat

Damn

RIP Jerry. Thanks for all the stories.

Loved his work.  Especially the ones with Larry Niven.

Thinking about it, the first time I saw something by him was in the old gaming mag out of Bath, Maine.  Cannot recall the name of the mag.  Around 1970, Avalon Hill published their game on the Italian campaign, Anzio, and Pournelle wrote an article on using the map to play the Second Punic War.
Unfortunately, he had recently gotten his PhD and included that in his signature.
Well, this was waving a red flag in front of Gary Gygax.  D&D hadn't quite taken off, and he was still supporting himself as a cobbler in his house's garage, and he went ballistic.
Attacking Pournelle as an elitist, trying to show his superiority.  He sent a vicious rant to the mag, which was published.
Funny how things come out of memory.
"Most gods throw dice, but Fate plays chess, and you don't find out until too late that he's been playing with two queens all along".  Terry Pratchett.

During filming of Airplane, Leslie Nielsen used a whoopee cushion to keep the cast off-balance. Hays said that Nielsen "played that thing like a maestro"

Tallulah Bankhead: "I'll come and make love to you at five o'clock. If I'm late, start without me."

"When all other trusts fail, turn to Flashman." — Abraham Lincoln.

"I have enjoyed very warm relations with my two husbands."
"With your eyes closed?"
"That helped."  Lauren Bacall

Master Chiefs are sneaky, dastardly, and snarky miscreants who thrive on the tears of Ensigns and belly dancers.   Admiral Gerry Bogan.

Damn. One of my favorites. RIP, Mr. Pournelle.  :(

Ah damn... Pournelle kept me entertained many an evening with his stories. We're gamers here....anytime I play a space game which allows you to rename ships or planets, you will often find my starships or planets carrying Pournelle's name, usually next to the USS Niven or the planet Heinlein. Guys like Pournelle turn our hearts to the sky. RIP Jerry.

^I do that with my OOTP team.  O0

:(  Damn, really enjoyed The Mote in God's Eye and Lucifer's Hammer.  Gonna have to dig them out and re-read them...
Government is not the solution to our problem—government is the problem.   Ronald Reagan

Good idea for naming ships and planets.  I frequently use dog names or a name from the alphabet sequentially as I expand out.

Jerry Pournelle attended DragonCon (with a walker) about 48 hours before he died.  There are pictures of him with multiple Baen Book authors.

He was able to do what he enjoyed until the very end.  I hope that we are all so lucky.

Edit: Found the picture.  In the background is Eric Flint who has also been quite sick.
