Title: Double-sided wargame maps
Post by: bayonetbrant on August 02, 2012, 08:32:52 AM
Hey folks -

I'm working on some ways to get some games back in print. I need to know what (if any) preference people have for wargame maps being printed 2-sided. Obviously these are not mounted maps.

Advantage?  More map for same amount of space. Possibly some cost savings.
Disadvantage?  One side inevitably has more creases than the other.  Can't set up both games/scenarios at the same time.

Please let me know what your prefs are on this one. Thanks!

If the cost difference is minimal I'd say separate maps. Otherwise the less-used side will get all scuffed and grimy from being face down on tables, crumbs, sticky dried soda/beer rings, etc.

I am going to have to ride the fence on this one.

I enjoy one-sided mounted maps for what they are. However, having a game include more maps due to having them double sided for the same price is a plus.

All that to say having a game include double sided maps will neither deter me nor compel me to buy it.  Although I must say I enjoy maps that can be combined together to make larger scenarios.

Well I spent my a good chunk of my high school and college career playing BattleTech, so I'm used to 2-sided maps.  Bring 'em on, I say!

Thought I read that Dan Holte's The Battle for Normandy Expansion will include double sided maps.

Frontside will be maps for the southern expansion to the base game.
Backside will be used to play single sheet games of Mortain and Falaise Pocket scenarios, areas that otherwise would have required multiple maps from both games.

A great idea IMO.

In regards to the bottom side getting all mucky with food and other grunge, the maps can be preserved almost forever, by taking them to a place like Kinko's and getting them laminated.
They would then have to be rolled up, but that is a small price to pay for saving a vital part of any game, whether it is two sided or not.
