Along the lines of bayonetbrant's thread about wargames, here's one that was played on another forum for a long time and then it suddenly went away: Name that wargame map!

I show a small image of a wargame map and everyone tries to guess what game it was from.  Ready?  Ok.  Here we go!  The first map, some may recognize the map artist here:

Something about it makes me think SPI......

Yes, it is a Redmond A. Simonsen (SPI) map.

I'll give the year next if this proves too difficult!

The towns and hex-number font clearly mark it as a Simonsen-based map.  But without any discernible text on it, it's tough to try to narrow it down beyond that.

It would be one of those "I played on that map!" moments.  This particular game wasn't rare but certainly isn't in the top 100 of board war games.  It was published in 1979 by SPI.

Looks like a Central Front map. Is it 5th Corps by any chance?
Gen. Montgomery: "Your men don't salute much."
Gen. Freyberg: "Well, if you wave at them they'll usually wave back."

Funny you should say that, I thought it may have been BAOR map from CF.

I went through all the SPI releases tagged with 1979 at the Geek and didn't find a comparable one.  I thought it might've been Red Star, White Star, but I didn't find a map tile that matched up with it.  And then stuff started melting down at work and I had to pay attention for a while and I'm just now getting back to this thread.

Paratrooper or something like that? It had Crete, Eben Emael and I can't recall what else. That looks like the eben emael part of the map.

Pinetree is our first winner! Indeed, that was from Paratroop, 1979.  A Jim Dunnigan design.

I think the first one is the red devils game from paratroop. I did see the prior post mentioning paratroop so I wuzn't first, but maybe the most accurate!
