Talk about sparse - info wise ...

By the look, it is based off the solitaire wargame RAF.

Specifically one side of the newer edition:  running the British defenses (Lion).

I played the tabletop version of Lion in RAF.  Definitely enjoyed it as a tabletop game.  Even though the interceptions started getting rather repetitive near the end, it was fun enough to play it to the end.  I thought the Lion side was a bit easy to win, so I need to go play from the German side sometime.

As far as a computer game version would go, I don't know if it would translate well.  While I enjoyed the physical game, I would think a digital version would get dull rather quickly.

As far as solitaire-to-PC games of this sort go, I would think that stuff like D-Day At Tarawa would be a bit more interesting on PC.  At least it wouldn't be as repetitive as the air raids in RAF.  I think they have, or are creating, a PC version of one of the D-Day games too.

Both RAF and the D-Day series were created by Butterfield, and use a somewhat similar card system to run the automated opponent.  Even though the map play is different.

Note:  my tabletop version of RAF had the worst die-cutting of the counters I've ever seen.  It was difficult getting all of the counters separated without tearing some faces off, so I had to get my X-acto knife and cut them all out of the counter sheets.  The excessive corner bush also required trimming even more than usual, of course.   From what I understand, at least some of these newer games from DG have this poor cut issue.

Thanks Nef. I think you are correct - though the publicity around their computer games is non existent.
Anyhows - its quite cheap so ordered. will see what its like.

Is it digital download or disk (as there is a disk shown in the page, I assume that?)

If it's DD, I'd punt for it - give it a go.

I am a HUGE fan of the boardgame, though I've only played it once (as with all things, fav or otherwise, shiny new sometimes puts the game away - but I always want to pull it out...it takes some space mind)...but it was excellent. As with Nefaro, I only played one side (and I don't recall if it was the British or German side I played) but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The rules were very easy to pick up.

Would it translate well? I don't know but for $20 I would be willing to try it. I'm not paying postage though, so if it's not DD, then it's not on my PC.

*EDIT*
I played the German side which was great fun

i do  ;)

was in the mail last Saturday :-) (custom took its time forever)

hadn't had much time with it yet but what i saw so far was good and i really like it  O0
...its very close to the board games without the hassle and so you can play turns very fast.
There is a text log-file with dice roles and cards drawn and also shows the active card in the display so you could even replay/check the steps by hand on your board if you like

here is a review over at BGG which is pretty much on point  (and had made me order the game)

i hope the programmer Michael Olsen makes the Eagle version too real fast.

Hi Judge - think you are uk ?
Same here - about 9 dollars postage - so all in cam out about £25 - (Ordered D-Day at Tarawa earlier and it arrived surprisingly quickly. about five days from order. which aint bad from the states for 8 pounds. Disc only - no DD. Customs werent interested in mine for whatever reason. But then again its UK customs.)

it can take quits some time so depending on how long its sit in custom offices
(D-Day at Tarwar which i had also ordered later only took a week or so)

I'd have bought quite a few of their PC games if they just sold downloads. I really don't understand the decision to stick with physical copies on a platform that has moved pretty much entirely to downloads.

Maybe I'll get them eventually, but I'm sure I'm not the only sale they are losing in that I'd probably impulse purchase if I could get it instantly.

I'd quite like the Galactic Empire game as I have the boardgame of that but I'd probably get to play it a little more if on PC.

Phantom

Rowans Battle of Britain game had a good strategic game reminiscent of RAF the board game, also allowed you to then take control of an individual fighter in a flight sim sub game, little like total war for air battles, good game if I recall correctly.

I looked at that too but noticed the requirements were Win95 or NT!  I can only imagine what screen resolution it supports.

I have the board game and played the German side a couple of years ago.

A very good game but the system is like nothing I have ever played before.  Took a lot of reading and several playthroughs before I felt comfortable with it.

Did you not also get hammered with import tax, as well as the postage? Sometimes the tax can be more painful than the postage.
