Has anyone tried this yet for Iphone? While I adore the combat mission series, there have been VERY few games for Iphone which I have found worth playing. Is this one decent, or a complete waste of money? 5$ seems reasonable for a multiplayer CM game that I can play on my phone, but it also seems too good to be true. Thanks!

I played it on Android when it first came out, but on a tablet. I don't remember it having multiplayer then... but that just might be my bad memory. :)

I'm not sure I'd be up to playing it on a phone. Especially a slim iPhone. Old man's eyesight, fat clumsy fingers etc...

But there are plenty of reviews that write it up as a good experience (I'll wager they were reviewed on a tablet though):

Thanks Spelk! I definitely like it but like you said I suffer from the same issues with the slim phone  :'( maybe its time to buy an IPAD.

I tried to get into it as well but I just couldn't get hooked. The immersion isn't there. The pinching, zooming, in, out, and especially orders, grew very frustrating after awhile. I'd really like to see a great mobile grog game that works on a phone.

My biggest wish for a port to an iPad would be something along the lines of

Lock n Load Heroes of Stalingrad
Flashpoint Campaigns
Command Ops

I'd play that. Hell, even a port of ASL. Give me a nice crisp layout, a battle I can see without zooming out my tiny 4.5" screen too far, and a squad I care about. I never had a connection with the little dudes in CM.

About the only "battle" yer gonna see on a 4.5" screen with out zooming out is two guys going at it gladiator style...  :P

I think Firefight iOS did a good job showing the proper scale without getting lost.

With combat mission I just didn't feel it. I had a hard time getting a good grasp of terrain, the proper path, where to actually go. Maybe zoom wasn't the right word, but view of the battle.

I played CM for the iPad when it came out. Played a few hours and tried to like it as I loved the PC versions. It was awful. Just impossible to use with a touch interface and it looked dreadful. Clearly someone had just done a shoddy port of the PC version to a simplified OpenGL engine without rethinking the UI. The original CM requires very precise controls, something that you simply don't have on an iPad, let alone an iPhone. Never played it again and I thought it had been pulled from the App Store. Even I could have made a better terrain engine than the iOS version of CM had back then.

Perhaps it's better now and even playable?

I had the same experience. Played it for an hour or so, hated it, deleted it, never played it since. Had they started with the iPad rather than the PC, I'd probably have thought it was a good game, but alas...

Wars and Battles (Normandy 1944) was a good game for iPad, with the somewhat unfulfilled promise of numerous more games to come. They released October War 1973 last year, but despite loving the setting, I couldn't get into it. Anyway, it would appear from their website/forum that the developers have abandoned the game.
