AWI card war, by Mark Ainsworth

take a deck of cards,

1) put all 12 Js Qs & Ks on the table faceup in 12 seperate places (these represent 12 strategic towns forts and ports in the AWI) these all will start out in British contol with red card suits.

2) seperate into two piles red & black suits, (the red are british, the black are american) , now shuffle each pile and make sure you cant see what they are.

3) deal 1 red card on each J Q & K, this is the total number of soldiers(pips) in each strategic area.

4) now play begins, now deal a black card onto any of the 12 piles and then a black card for the rest of the 12 piles- this is your first attack cards , now deal a second card  on one of the 12 piles, then all the rest of the 12 piles deal a black card.

5) now deal a red card on the 12 piles, this is the british reinforcement cards.

6) now add the black pips, and add the red pips on each pile, whichever has most pips takes the strategic location. remove the losers cards , if the pips for black and red are equal the cards count towards the next round(you can remove both sides) the area is not under any ones  control

7) now the war continues untill all cards have been dealt, deal two cards of opposite color to the controlling side on each pile. now repeat step 6 and 7

8) count how many strategic locations belong to red & black, most is the winner

optional rules, K Q, & Js represent towns forts and ports, the final score counted can be 3 Ks 2 Qs & 1Js,

optional rules you could play one pile at a time instead of 12

I think I'd rather just play cribbage :P

the idea of swapping black/red cards in & out based on control of an area isn't a bad one

but it feels like a lot work to keep track of the other cards / effects for the battles

how many wargames are no work, just  taking a turn in most wargames takes a lot of grind sometimes. Maybe it could be improved.

maybe one pile at a time, rather than 12.
