Damn it. Just picked up an Oculus Rift s. The increase in clarity and the lack of a need for room mounted sensors is what pushed me over the cliff. :hide: I may be listing my very gently used Vive for sale, depending on how much of a leap this is over that experience.

Ah nice! I am watching out for your review!
Especially the change from the Vive / Oculus CV1 to this S model. When will you get it?

Yeah, people are raving about the resolution increase in the DCS social media groups. Cockpit gauges are reportedly much clearer and easier to read.

Don't know much about VR, but I came across a guy reviewing the pimax VR headset that claims to be the first 4k headset.  Problem is most people don't have a rig that can run 4k at a constant 100fps to support it.

Waiting for JH's opinion with baited breath...

I'm so ready to jump that I actually find myself avoiding playing any RPG's or shooters that have VR versions. I'm saving them/myself for my VR marriage I guess.   O:-)

Does the Rift S offer an option for integrated headphones or must you use your own? The latter would add extra weight and also an extra cord since most bluetooth 'phones don't offer the same deep sound as good wired/driven ones.

The Rift S has integrated headphones and mic. Some people complain about the quality, but I don't perceive any problem so far. Sounds great.

I was asking because non of the product pix show earphones of any kind, unlike the original Rift. Nothing that covers the ear at all. Same with the quest.

Are there externally-directed speakers built into the sides of the face cover? I did notice in the product info that there is an option to plug your own headphones into the headset.

depending on the production year and the quality of your actual smart phone.
get the Samsung Gear VR goggles (Samsung smartphone needed) for a first babystep venture into VR.
you can check out if you feel comfortable with such an item and how you react to the VR, eyesight, sickness  and all

i got mine including a controller for 79 Euro in an xmas-sale   ...well it does not locate its position moving inside the room, but it is free of any cable, and you can us it anywhere, on travel, in a break, or showcase the VR experience to a buddy you meet,  you name it
