DoctorQuest

It is a real rollercoaster of a movie. It has some really great hard sci-fi elements but gets tripped up over the trippy stuff. I have it on DVD and I will still watch it again from time to time. It is one movie that really makes a hell of a lot more sense if you read the book first.

^yeah. I never really enjoyed the movie until I read the book.

This exactly.

The movie is insane, only finally making sense in the latter part as HAL tries to murder his crew. I really enjoyed 2010 a lot more than 2001...as a movie.

DoctorQuest

I liked 2010 as well. A good sci-fi romp overall.

I read somewhere that Kubrick being Kubrick destroyed all the models used in 2001.  :uglystupid2: The 2010 SFX team basically had to rebuild the Discovery from scratch.

Agreed with enjoying 2010 more than 2001.  :bd:

I was 6 or 7 years old when the movie came out.  I probably didn't watch it right away, but probably waited until I was 9 or 10.  I loved the spaceships, but didn't really understand some of the deeper things, but knew there some pretty heavy stuff.

The intro to 2001 is truly spectacular and a high point in cinematic history.
