Title: Words of Old FRIDAYS
Post by: Hofstadter on March 17, 2017, 12:40:11 AM

Brought something that's a bit of an easier listen from my hipster library.

Man's gin is one of two projects by Erik Wunder. It employs country, gothic, Americana and classic rock. It's sorta like the country version of his black metal project Cobalt.

Hemingway save me, Hemingway save me, hemingway got me really &($:&+! Up.

For gaming I'm mainly doing Scourge of War Waterloo, Arma 3 and Total War Atilla. But tonight I've got a bottle of Coonawarra Shiraz and a compendium of sick euro horror movies. Good stuff

Interested stuff above. Out of left field for me this week is Alan Wake. Creepy and kooky, enjoying it so far.

More PBEM Labyrinth with SDR... we're nearing the end of the deck and it's not looking good for freedom....  :P

More PBEM Flashpoint Campaigns with OJsDad.... just finished a huge slugfest where the Red Tide eked out a win. Now to pick a new battle.

Try to get my game of The War started on my table top.

Maybe try some more Syrian Warfare with the resent update.

Need to build new birdhouses for the tree Swallows that return to our yard every year.... in case spring finally shows up....

Might be able to Scourge of Wartaloo Saturday afternoon with Asid & Company. (You should join if you can, Hof! -- unless you're already playing with the Dogs of War under another name?)

My secret plans for a new AAR proceed apace -- the first two entries are mostly finished, not quite ready to release, but I'm hoping I'm over a necessary hill now and can proceed more quickly hereafter. As a hint, there could be 11 entries (including a zero-entry to introduce things) where I'm playing three lions roaring against myself.

This may end up being delayed if Bartheart and I start a mp of Decisive Campaigns 1: Blitzkrieg.

Waiting breathlessly for the Jason/Barth DC 1 Show. Meanwhile, I've rediscovered the joys of herding cats that is To End All Wars where I won the 1914 scenario as the Allies and now am giving the 1914 Russkies a chance to impress me. Plus a little 'March Maddness' thrown in for good measure. Have a good one Grogs.  \m/

Bought into P.A.M.E.L.A. early access, an open world creepy future type game so i'll be exploring that. Finishing up Sirte #1 PBEM, Libya's forces are exacting a heavy toll on the British invaders, probably going to get started on Sirte#2 and also reading up on Bartheart and Jason's PBEM ;D

I have tomorrow off,

so I'm looking at learning Polaris Sector - learning the nuances of the game. There's a lot to appreciate about it.

Having fun with Battle Academy - Thinking might get Metz, Blitzkrieg and Rommel in Normandy.

Might get back into Emperor or even take a look at CK2 since Monks and Mystics came out.

But we will see.  :)

This has nothing to do with gaming but my favorite is this one.  Do you remember the dialogue in this scene?

I have the weekend off, but have been ironically too busy to have much time for gaming.   (Was out drinking yesterday, of course, and am now getting ready to go drink some more with visit some other friends this afternoon/evening).  I spent an hour or two playing an old Irish campaign in Medieval Total War/Viking Invasion late last night after returning from St. Patrick's Day revelries, but that's been about the extent of it.  Maybe more Irish adventures tomorrow?  We shall see.

Well I am traumatised (but not at all surprised) to read the early reviews of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Sounds like Mass Effect: Inquisition. MMO in space, tedious fetch quests and resource gathering. As an official Mass Effect addict I have been looking forward to this so much...but Inquisition was a warning.

So I spent quite some time trying to mod Medieval Total War II with Stainless Steel 6.4 - lots of trying to work, but at the end it still just crashes on launch of campaign. *sigh*

So some WoWs - started on US BB line.

Loaded XCom: Enemy Within to continue my campaign...but then had to have myself some Mass Effect consolation. So starting a new trilogy run - Julia Shepard, Renegade Sentinel (a first). Will try dating Ashley (another first) and generally ruin Saren's day. I loaded the MEUTIM mod from Nexus...pretty huge...even with my fast download speeds took an hour (really appreciate Steam speeds now...would be under 5 minutes for 5GB there). And, with that mod, ME1 looks very acceptable indeed. Great modding work.

I never got SS 6.4 to work either, so I feel your angst. 6.3 is fantastic though!

Same here with Stainless Steel.  I'm not sure I ever got any version to work...it was a long time ago.

I ended up continuing my run at CK2 as Wales.  I reckon that's close enough to Ireland to count.  And I did sip some Jameson.

However, I'm seriously considering booting up M2TW and playing through the Britannia campaign.  I've never finished it!   :(

The M2TW Britannia campaign is very good too. Nef if we knew what we were doing wrong we wouldn't have the SS 6.4 issue in the first place!

Yes, drag that I cannot get 6.4 to work. I see unanswered comments on Moddb site of others with same issue.

Given what you said re 6.3, I was redownloading the package (since 6.3 is the base install for 6.4) but on digging, I see the bugfix files for 6.3 do not seem to be available anywhere now...replaced by 6.4 which does not work for me. Pity.

I'll maybe give Atilla a go after Xcom session.

Any goodwill I may have had for Bioware died teh day EA bought them.

I may pick it up...when it's down around $20. No interest otherwise.

Well each to their own, and you must have your own reasons. I can't say I lost any goodwill towards them...they never owed me anything but I have got a lot of pleasure out of their games over the years. And since EA bought them, they have produced what I think are many good games - Dragon Age:Origins, Mass Effect 2 and 3 in particular. At this point I am not convinced by early press that Andromeda is my thing, but I live in hope later reviews, developments or mods may change that...I would love for it to be good. Doesn't have to be perfect.

[Edit]

I see that over at RPS they have an excerpt from the prequel novel for Andromeda - it seems to help with understanding the background:

Damn Alan Wake can be quite difficult in some spots. I needed to restart and backtrack at 'easy' difficulty to get through an area that I tried to get through 150 times and got totally pwned. Of course after an hour I got back to the same spot and made it through on one try. At least I didn't give up :/

This game could really use a save anywhere feature, however.
