Quotehe popular Filipino tourist site Resorts World Manila is on lockdown after reports of gunfire and explosions.

A masked gunman was on the second floor of one hotel, firing at guests, hotel employees fleeing the scene told CNN Philippines.

Heavily-armed SWAT officers wearing bulletproof vests and body armor descended on the scene around 1:30 a.m Friday, Camille Abadicio of CNN Philippines said.

It was not immediately clear how many people may have been injured or killed.

"The company is working closely with the Philippine National Police to ensure that all guests and employees are safe," the resort complex tweeted. "We ask for your prayers during these difficult times."

Resorts World Manila, also known as RWM, is a resort complex in Newport City, a residential and commercial center in metropolitan Manila.

The guy was captured on CCTV stealing casino chips. Don't really know what's the purpose of it.  The real battle with extremists is raging in the south.  Though some ISIS supported did claim responsibility.

Updates: 34 reported dead due to the fire.

Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Thanks for the update Jomni.  I'll admit that I got distracted by real life yesterday and never went back to follow up on the article.

Press is leaning towards robbery instead of terror as motive.

That's what I'm hearing too.  But these days, when you hear "shootout at a resort" your brain still defaults to "terror attack"

Defintely. I'm not sure if it's better or worse that it's 'just a robbery'...with that many casualties.

It seems nobody was killed by gunfire as he aimed away from the people.
The (unintended ?) casualties are due to the fires he started (before he killed himself).

You can watch what has transpired in this compilation of CCTV videos from the resort.
He wasn't really shooting at anyone.  He's just ransacking the place.
