WWII East Front

See if any of you guys can help me with this. 

I remember that one of Germany's leading generals had wanted to go on the defense on the eastern front with the plan to allow the Russians to make break throughs in predetermined places.  Once a certain amount a forces were through, the Germans would then close the door behind them, and then destroy the trapped Russians in detail.  Hitler of course didn't like the plan and wouldn't allow it to be implemented.

My question is which general wanted to do this and what was the strategy called.
